For a fantastic sushi meal, Rainbow King in Bel Air, MD is worth the trip for a huge variety of rolls, each made on site by their sushi chefs overseeing the tables from their stocked prep area. The staff is incredibly positive and pleasant, and only after a few visits begin to remember you and make efforts to welcome you back. At this point, we are "regulars" and it's still just great service. The decor includes an atmosphere aligned with Asian bistro/village restaurant, but attention to details and presentation could get an update. Things have always been clean and tidy (no worries there), but adjustments (not changes) within the space would be welcomed. But we go for the food - and presentation and quality are outstanding as well as the experience. Flavors are spot on - from the simplest salmon or avocado roll to the elaborate like Naruto and Ocean rolls (our server recommended the Ocean, and it's just an absolute favorite). You definitely start your feast with your eyes, and each time you are further pushed to enjoy more than you expected to eat! Their Roll Combos are an awesome value as well, and highly recommended as a pairing to a specialty roll for the whole table to supplement from. One other thing to note - it's a little perk.. the wontons brought to the table while you wait are the wide noodle versions - fried to perfection and SO MUCH better than the thin strips of most Asian restaurants - they are never stale! The place can get very busy at times, but for a great evening sushi dinner, we love the place...
Read moreDon't usually write reviews but it felt needed after what I experienced.
Ordered 3 California rolls, 1 Lo Mein, 2 crab rangoons, 2 vege rolls, and a thing of tsos chicken. Grabbed the food 2 mins after delivery and live about ten mins away. I'll just create a list.
Lo Mein was saturated with oil, could probably drown sombody in it. Shrimp was meh, beef was mediocre, chicken was good. It was lukewarm then turned cold while eating.
Rangoons / vege rolls were both NOT crispy at all. Mushy and slightly cold on arrival. Rangoons not filled very well and smaller than expected. Super disappointing as I was looking forward to these.
gen tsos chicken was good. Only warm, not hot.
California rolls / spicy mayo sides didn't arrive with my order. Don't know if it was the dasher or RK, but physical receipt said 2 bags upon inspection and everything was in 1 bag on arrival. Got refunded for the sushi but only 3/4 people got their dinner. Not ordering again just to pay another delivery fee and tip. I'll also add- this is the second time I've ordered from RK. First time was almost a year ago and they forgot the sushi I ordered then too. Ironic.
I can confidently say, and I try to avoid sounding rude but this was a pretty terrible surprise- get Chopstix. Their food is always hot and consistent. Additionally, you'll get what you...
Read moreWow. Normally I would give this place 5 stars but their food and service has declined radically over the last month or two. I always order takeaway and tip between 15-20% in hopes it will mean they get things right. They used to be very careful with orders but that is no longer the case. The last few times I've gone there including today and last week, I've asked to have certain items bagged separately to drop off at a friend's house. Complete failure both times and previously. And then there's the quality of food. The Tempura Combo Lunch Box used to be a joyful array of goodies. Now the Tempura is hastily thrown together and, comparatively, pathetic. One shrimp Tempura was 2" long and the other was not much bigger but broken in half with the flattened,,burnt end end getting soaked under some mixed greens. I should note the guys working were busy texting and talking to a salesman. The tall girl at the counter appears to have improved in the language department but gets worse in execution every time. Perhaps management should take their cellphones away while they are "working." In my previous visit, they were so busy practicing the pronunciation of "apron" (on a cellphone) that they screwed up my order. Yawn. Fortunately for me, there are plenty of alternatives in the Bel Air area. Pity. Kiss this good...
