India Gate: A Learning Experience Atmosphere and Service: 2/5 ⭐ Upon entering India Gate, we hoped for a warm welcome, but unfortunately, the staff seemed uninterested. A friendly greeting and warmer engagement would have gone a long way. Food Quality: 2.5/5 ⭐ Vegetable Samosas: The vegetable samosas didn't quite hit the mark. Their flavor lacked the usual zest, leaving us underwhelmed. Lamb Biryani: Right out of the bag, we were shocked to see its packaging. The styrofoam looks as though it had been near high heat resulting in it to warp and crack. Melted styrofoam doesn’t feel safe to pull your food from… Plus it made a mess in the bag. Despite ordering it very mild, mentioning it was for children with low to no tolerance, the lamb biryani surprised us with unexpected high spiciness. The adults ate the biryani, it was decent. The lamb was very tender, which was delicious. Chicken Tikka Masala: Our request for extra hot chicken tikka masala resulted in a disappointingly bland dish. The lack of spice left us puzzled. Buttered Chicken: Ordered with no spice, the buttered chicken arrived surprisingly spicy. Perhaps a mix-up in the kitchen? Naan: The naan was ok. We ordered 3 different kinds. Chutneys: The green chutney was way too watery, lacking the vibrant kick we love. The tamarind chutney was passable but forgettable. Prawn Coconut Curry: The prawn coconut curry featured a mere seven small prawns. For a dish that promises indulgence, this fell short. Portion Sizes and Rice Mishap: 1/5 ⭐ To our surprise, our entire order came with just one box of rice. Considering we ordered three separate meals, each deserving its own serving of rice, this was very disappointing! This is also true for the chutneys. Seeing as we ordered three naan, and two samosas, they originally only gave us the tiny serving of chutney pictured. We requested more which is also pictured. Dessert: 1/5 ⭐ The rice pudding was overly soggy, missing the comforting texture we associate with this classic Indian treat. --- In summary, India Gate fell short on multiple fronts—flavor, portion sizes, and service. We hope they take this feedback constructively and strive for improvement. As for now, we won’t be returning anytime soon. (We always leave 15% gratuity or higher, even for take-out)

I went here today and got some lamb coconut curry. Along with some papadums. That was the best part. Along with their appetizers such as the pakoras. The curry is the best part. My favorite is all of their curries. But their drinks are golden as well. The owner goby here is really nice. He is very creative With his cooking. I'd come again. I'd recommend guy fieri to this place as well. These guys make good indian food.

This is the best Indian food in the state, and I love Indian food! Hot, fresh, flavorful. I love lamb curries and their Lamb Korma is my new favorite thing. Naan bread is perfect balance of chewy and crisp. Portions are enough to share or just make 2 meals out of it, which offsets the price. Service is great, super friendly and accommodating. Fully recommend!

Great place! We place our order online and pick it up quickly with no contact. Average time between order being submitted and available for pickup ( we order around 4: 30pm, to pick up after work) is about 30-35 minutes (we order a lot of entrees). When going inside to pick up there is only one person in the main lobby to facilitate any help and they wear a mask. They make it easy to order online through chownow.

Portions Value

I'm one of those people who care about how much I get for my money and I always get irritated when restaurants can't tell you how much food you're getting. I don't have to worry about that with India gate we get this at least once a month to give me a break from being the main household cook for the week. The portions are generous when it comes to the carbohydrates such as rice, naan, etc. The portion is still good for the curries you get at least 16 oz and we like to order a couple different curries w/some rice so we don't have to cook for the week on our busy weeks. The food still tastes fantastic even 3 days later for lunches/dinners.I'm writing this as we just finished doing our third order from them and would love to see them continue to be open as they are staple for us now.

Food rating/recommend

As for which dishes I recommend (because every place has it's super stars). It depends on what you like as a flavor. What we consistently find ourselves getting is the biryani rice, shahi paneer, mango/ginger chicken, lamb karahi, and the mango lassi. We've had some of the naans they were okay standard naan nothing too out of the ordinary. I do personally like the (potato stuffed naan)alu kulcha, my SO says it's a bit simple/plain but sometimes I want something simple alongside bursts of curry flavor.

I would say we haven't had a bad dish yet. Some where a little lackluster in direct comparison to their superstars, but that kind of happens when you compare side-by-side no matter where you go. If you've never had Indian food this is a great place to try. If you've been around (like us) and you just want something consistent it's a great value. We went digging around the menu and found our favorites.

Just to add to how much we like this place my SO is making a Google keep note of our personal dish reviews . We like to think we are foodies, for us we have not had a bad experience and we have mastered their hot medium mild rating system. We have yet to try the fish but when we do I'll probably have my SO put up their review in regards to the fish dishes.

Overall I give this place I solid B+ I know there are probably fancier more authentic places out there but this does the job for us and it's reasonably priced. My rating may not match yours and it's because everyone's wants different things and have different paletes. I hope I expanded upon our paletes, our expectations, and what went into how we rated this. I can't stand to see short reviews that say food's great/bad and don't tell you...

I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 10 years. And as a hotel agent i have recommended it to hundreds of people over the same time period. I have received almost nothing but positive feedback from people all over the world. I have had some home-sick Indians tell me that it's better than their mother cooks. And even heard from their coworkers that they should ask me what the best Indian food is. Having personally sampled indian restaurants from portland oregon to portland maine and I can say without a doubt that this is my favorite restaurant. The vegetarian dishes which I typically order are incredibly flavorful. And if you're in the mood for a spicy challenge order their food at a 6*.

I can not recommend this restaurant enough. It's no Michelin star rated restaurant but If you care at all about your taste buds don't deprive them of this wonderful experience.

If you're new to indian food and you're not sure which dishes are your favorite stop by for the buffet and develop a lasting relationship with this...
