Please, don't eat here. It is very obvious how the restaurant is cutting costs with their food. Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I've ever had, and the sad thing is, it used to be good.
Over the years my family has both eaten here and ordered takeout of both dim sum and entrees. The mandatory star I have to give I'll credit to edible dim sum (but you could get better dim sum anywhere else, so there's still not point). I literally would not feed the food we got to my dog tonight. And he begged hard. This place used to be pretty good pre COVID. But it has backslid since then.
We ordered 7 dishes for my dad's birthday dinner; egg foo yung, pan fried seafood noodles, fried rice, green string beans, beef noodles, general tso's chicken, and walnut shrimp.
The food had zero taste. I mean zero. Usually food will taste like something but I can't put it to you more literally than it was just bland and completely tasteless. But worse than that is how obvious it is where the restaurant has switched up ingredients and quality to stay cheap.
Egg foo yung should have been foo yung because I'm still genuinely not sure if it had eggs in it or not. It was a mushy blob that seemed like it had lots and lots of flour and onion in it. Maybe potatoes. Who knows? The walnut shrimp and chicken were somehow both soggy and tough. And if you couldn't tell, that greenish brown lump with the shimp used to be fresh cabbage.
Most disappointing was the pan fried seafood noodles. There used to be actual fish and nice cuts of squid in the dish, and scallops. Now there are old frozen fish balls and squid, no scallops. The sauce like everything else has absolutely no taste to it. It's as if there is no salt or seasoning in any dish they make.
Oh, and the food was already lukewarm when we picked it up and cool by the time we got home (15 minutes away).
The food is just just a disappointment on every level. And based off the other reviews, the staff and facilities are no longer pleasant either. What reason is there to...
Read moreTop Gun has been THE go-to for dim sum and general Chinese food in Bellevue for decades. That said, they also exemplify all the worst attributes of a Chinese restaurant: super heavy food that has more grease than flavor, truly terrible service, and questionable business practice.
Bulleted key points: If you come in between 3pm-5pm, while you can put in an order, you and all other tables are waiting an hour for food because the chef is taking their lunch break (confirmed by staff). *PAY ATTENTION to the dim sum plates they set on your table. They set items down you don't order without making eye contact and rush off immediately. They hope you will simply eat it and then charge you (confirmed by 2 tables seated beside us). Take a screenshot of your "cart" on your phone before you submit your order to keep track of what is coming out. You are given a pot of tea the second you are seated, but are not informed you are charged per person for that tea. 50% of food comes out ice cold The wait to be cashed out was 30 min. We watched other customers looking around helplessly to be cashed out as well. There is only one man staffed on the floor with two women bussing. In the new world of QR code ordering, staffing the floor adequately for helpful service has taken a back seat.
As a long time lover of mom/pop style Asian restaurants in Chinatown and elsewhere, my expectations for service is already lower because you go to those places for the food! Not the high class service! But Top Gun is such an epic fail and it's clear they live off of being the only game in town for dim sum.
If you want a positive or at the very least, NOT frustrating experience and some hearty Chinese food, make the trip out to Chinatown. The gas (even with today's rates) is still cheaper than the cost of eating at Top Gun, and you won't be losing your hair in annoyance from start to finish. Yea's Wok in Newcastle is also great Chinese food if you're willing to...
Read moreUploaded image summarizes everything! I’ve been coming here for over 7 years now (maybe more). Service has never been great, but it never bothered me as there are not many dim sum options around the area. However, a visit a month ago, I found a cockroach on my siewmai. It’s fortunate that the cockroach was on the outside and not in the siewmai, otherwise I wouldn’t have known! I suspect some of you who have eaten here in the past might have eaten “extra protein” in your dim sum without knowing! What’s more appalling was the restaurant’s response. They replaced that siew mai and gave a 15% discount (our bill was only $24… which someone in my group pointed out could have been 100% comped). Manager (who was at the front desk) didn’t even come to the table despite us asking to speak to her to let her know that a cockroach in our food isn’t acceptable (I mean how do we know the other dishes were clean). We don’t expect a server to drive much changes at this restaurant and that’s why we wanted to raise it up with the manager. The manager’s response (or lack of) clearly shows her indifference to this incident and restaurant hygiene in general. I highly discourage patronizing this restaurant, go a little farther to the international district in seattle. Service and dim sum are much better over there! My friend lodged a complaint with the WA department of health (we didn’t want to post a review until they get a surprise visit from a health inspector, thus this...
