Grumpy's Restaurant — Restaurant in Bellingham

The health department has clearly skipped over Grumpy's, perhaps due to its façade, appearing to be that of a derelict home. Admittedly, I knew that the lunch was going to be sub-par when, after parking in the rear, I had noticed that an employee door was open to the kitchen; inside, a dark and dingy stairwell with mold coating the floor. Unfortunately, the lunch at Grumpy's was not my idea, but rather that of my co-workers, so I kept quiet and gave it a chance. Upon entering the "restaurant," we noticed a few people at the bar, and an entirely empty seating area... We wanted to sit, but there was no waitress to be found, and the bartender was busy flirting with girls that appeared a few years too young to be sitting at the bar. After about 3 minutes of standing there, we decided to turn around and walk out; this caught the pedophile's attention, and he snapped at us to sit. At this point, we were all turned off by the atmosphere, but our break only lasts for an hour and we wouldn't have had time to eat elsewhere, so we reluctantly obeyed. On our way to our seats, we noticed a compost pile (we later learned that this was a salad bar) that served as a breeding ground for the dozens of flies in the restaurant. Once seated, the waitress promptly arrived to take our orders, and returned quickly with drinks. A mere few minutes later, she returned with our orders. The waitress was the only redeeming quality of this dump, but alas, she alone does not raise "Grumpy's" beyond the inevitable 1-star rating. As we tried to eat, we found ourselves swatting flies away, nonstop, as they would simply land on the light above us before returning down for an opportunity to feast on Grumpy's' finest. I had ordered the chicken club, which was a sandwich containing a handful of gristle, with a hint of chicken flavoring. One bite was enough for me. Looking around the table, my experience was not an isolated one. Most of the dishes appeared to be frozen, canned, stale, etc. Defeated, we paid our bill and returned for a miserable 5 hours of work. About half of us ended up with food poisoning and filed a report with the MA Health and Human Services Dept. True rating-ZERO STARS One star ONLY because if I don’t put the one star at least it wouldn’t let me write the review. And after calling to try to rectify the mess that was my order and being told it was my fault by the ignorant person on the phone. Stating she quoted 20 minutes and we didn’t show up for a few minutes after that. Really?! So that explains away the fact that the fries couldn’t have been cooked anytime in the previous half hour or more and they were burnt. The two bacon cheeseburgers were ordered to be cooked well done. And both were very very pink bordering on red. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy even because not only can they not cook a burger completely when orders that way but when you call them to address it they blame you. I will be getting my money back via my bank! Calling them in the morning and letting them know that I tried to rectify it with the business but instead was blamed and talked down to. If I had gotten there early I still would have gotten old food because no way any of it was cooked anytime within half hour to 45 minutes before we picked it up. Plus she said she spoke to us and placed the order at 9:40, wrong it was actually 9:48 according to my cellphone log and we may have been 3-5 minutes late picking it up which doesn’t account for completely cold and old food. I’d bring it all back so she can see I took one bite and spit it back in the container. But I wanted my money back. But wasn’t given that option but instead was blamed for their incompetence! I have heard good things about this place. Sadly though i was mot impressed. It isnt the first time I went there. The first time i was there i was throw out after taking 2 steps into the place. I thought nothing of it cause it was probably cause the person i was with and it was close to last call.

But this time the first thing that happened was i got the stink eye from the bartender.i thought nothing of it cause i was there to eat not drink. So we sat down and as you can see by the pictures the floor was not clean and the chairs were falling apart. I honestly dont know why it bothered me so much. But i got the chipotle burger while my friend got the seafood platter. Im not much of a seafood person but she said the only thing wrong was hers was missing the clam strips but they subbed it out with extra fried cod. But my burger was underwhelming. The fries were good but fried a touch too long. And the burger was cooked the way i wanted but there was nothing on there it was a shot of Chipotle a slice of cheese and the burger. There was no mayo or lettuce or tomato just sauce cheese and burger. And there wasnt much sauce to even add flavor to the burger. I dont know if it was cause it was a monday evening or what but i was under whelmed compardd to the rumors and under impressed. I might try it again on a better day. Oh and the rumors say its a great resteraunt and bar. Great for...
