Update: my wife and I went to eat at the restaurant next to the grocery store. Obviously owned by the same people as they are interconnected. As you walk in you notice the roomy spacing for guests. Ordering is at the counter, where you are greeted by a friendly Mexican lady who answers all the questions you have on the menu, painted on the board above the counter. Not only handy, but more hygienic as you are not touching any menu. We ordered tacos which are prepared on the spot. Worth mentioning, they also is sell Salvadorian pupusa. The place is popular among not only Mexicans but also among the average make-up of Bellingham's population judging from my observation during the short dinner. The tacos were excellent and delicious. We had wanted Indonesian hotness, but we had to settle with Mexican hotness - not spicy. No Ghost peppers in the taco sauce. The friendly lady even had time for a little chit-chat and showed a genuine interest in our background, perhaps because we had ordered the more exotic tacos like lengua, tripa and cabeza. We definitely were happy with their tacos served with onion and slices of lemon and radish even though I missed my hot peppers. As a side order we also had guacamole. Anybody eating here would not be disappointed. We highly recommend this place.
Old review: The grocery store sells what other Latino food stores offer, from meat, pastries, vegetables to canned products. It also sells taco and Mexican food at...
Read moreThis place is great! Learnt shout this place from a Border Security officer. We were on our way to Burlington's Carniceria El Compadre; stopped at the border, the officer asked us where we were going and we told him. He asked why go so far if you can go to one closer. Told him we didn't know of a closer one, he then recommended La Gloria in Bellingham.
The place is easy to find and was open by the the time we arrived (0945). It is quite large and has three different areas. The far-left is the market, the center area is mainly the Carnicería and the darn right area is the restsurant. We decided to eat first...bad mistake. Everything looked delicious!
My wife ordered the Pozole and Tacos de carne asada whilst I ordered Tacos al Pastor and a Chorizo Huarache. To drink they have mexican and other Latin American sodas as well as delicious Aguas de Horchata, Jamaica and Tamarindo. We got a cup of Tamarindo.
The portions are not only delicious but HUGE! Her Pozole is of the red variety with generous amounts of meat and hominy. They serve it with a couple of tostadas, avocado, shredded cabbage and radishes. I recommend you ask for chopped onions, peppers and cilantro as well as lime to fill out the flavour profile.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The service was quick and accurate.
I definitely recommend La Gloria Market...
Read moreThis place was one of my favorite Mexican locations when I first moved to Bellingham ten years ago. I'm glad to see that they are better than ever. They have a full menu with lots of meat choices, along with vegetarian options.
My favorite things are the burrito, the huarache, and the tacos. The burrito comes with everything, and if you dine in, it comes smothered with sauce and cheese on top. The tacos come with cilantro, onions, radish, and lime.Their hot sauces are flavorful but not overwhelmingly spicy. Their chips and salsa are always fresh. I haven't found another place that makes salsa like they do.
They have a plant near the front that has been here for so long that they use a piñata stick to weave it through the rafters.
I'm surprised that this place is usually empty when I come here. It's honestly better than most of the Americanized Mexican places that I've visited. There is limited parking in front of the building but more...
