Mi Rancho in Bellingham, tucked away in an unassuming plaza, sandwiched between a Mexican grocery store and a butcher shop, is the kind of place that doesn’t give a damn about Instagram filters or fancy decor. It’s got wrinkled menus, blindingly bright chairs, and an interior that feels like you’ve stepped into a roadside cantina in Mexico that forgot it was north of the border. And I love it for that. This is a joint where the food does all the talking. Dollar carnitas tacos? You heard right. In a world where avocado toast costs more than a night out, Mi Rancho’s serving up one of the best deals in town. The carnitas are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor—worth every penny and then some. And if you’re feeling a bit more lavish, the other tacos will set you back a whopping $1.50. Asada, birria, adobada, I tried them all, and each one was a little handheld miracle of taste and texture. Everything’s handmade here, from the tortillas to the salsas. You bite into one of these tacos and you can tell someone put in the work. Fresh, delicious, and honest. This isn’t some sad, reheated fast food slop passed off as Mexican food; this is the real deal, lovingly crafted by people who know their way around a kitchen. Now, let’s talk ambiance. It’s hotter than a July afternoon in Guadalajara, and the decor is more “utility” than “design statement.” This place is about substance over style, no pretension whatsoever. Ask for water, and you’ll get a look that says, “You’re here for tacos, not table service.” And you know what? They’re right. No one’s going to bring you a refill or top off your soda, and they’re not asking for tips either. It’s refreshing in a way—no guilt, no fuss, just damn good food made by hardworking people who let their tacos do the talking. So, if you’re in Bellingham and want to spend your cash on flavor instead of frills, Mi Rancho is the spot. It’s honest, unpretentious, and delicious. The kind of place that makes you forget about Yelp reviews and just savor the simple joy of a perfectly made taco. 4 stars out of 5. Honest service, they don’t ask for tips. You are here for the food and they make food darn well and at a good value.

Food is excellent, was drawn in by the $1 taco signs as many others were. Only the carnitas are $1/each - all the other tacos are more expensive. Everything was flavourful and our waitress was very nice. Payment was confusing, as the birria combo I ordered was supposed to be $11.99 (as shown on the menu), but I was charged $12.99. When I showed the cashier this, she kept arguing with me until I showed her the menu where it CLEARLY shows $11.99, then her excuse was “the menu is wrong” ??? That left me with a poor impression.

Best bang for your buck tacos. They offer 6 different types of meat tacos, price ranging from $1 to $2. Steak, marinated pork, deep fried pork, pork intestines, chicken, and birria. They also serve amazing fresh nachos and house sauces, medium and hot spice levels. Their house sauces are so delicious. We saw many people ordered their horchata so we also ordered one to try and it did not disappoint. One of the best horchata I’ve ever had! Highly recommend this restaurant and we can’t wait to come back for more tacos :)

This place is the bomb. Amazing tacos, seriously let me say that again, AMAZING tacos. I highly reccomend spending the extra dollar to try the Birria, it’s my personal favorite.

First timers here may be a little confused with the ordering set up. Entering from the left door, you enter the sit down, where you will be seated, but they will not bring you menus, you have to grab one. Make sure. When paying you have to walk over to the meat market and pay over there. It’s a little confusing.

Takeout is where it gets complicated, enter through the meat market, and go order at the meat counter(they have taken orders at the cash station, but lately it’s the meat guys taking the orders. Wait around by the pastries and they will bring out your food with a ticket, take that ticket and pay for your food.

These tacos are seriously amazing, and I mean all of them. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Bellingham, and is a place I bring any visitors/family. If you haven’t gone, you’re missing out.

Ps. Try their 32 oz...

With $1 tacos the value is amazing! You get chips and salsa as well. They have a full menu, but I think tacos are their main draw. They're basic street tacos with corn tortillas meat and a little bit of onion, but they're good and make a satisfying inexpensive meal.

If you've never been there before, what you do is grab your own menu and sit down at any table you want. The waitress will come by to take your order and collect the menus. When they bring your food they also give you your bill. When you're done eating you walk past the restaurant and into the store to pay at the cash register. It's cheaper if you pay with cash. Also, on your way to the cash register there's a little ice cream freezer and you have to try the ice cream....
