JJ’s Cafe — Restaurant in Bergenfield

I was in town visiting some friends in the area and they suggested that we go to Zai’s for a treat on a Sunday afternoon. We are from Toronto and I have to say that we were very impressed with our entire experience. The café has such a great vibe and they had a large variety of options to choose from. The owners were incredibly warm and inviting and they took the time to ensure that we were enjoying our food and our experience.

Must try’s:

-The Mac Chip Ice Cream was simply DELICIOUS. They put actual macaron pieces in the ice cream – best thing I’ve tasted in a long time! Really top quality ice cream too.

-Coconut Macaron – So pretty and had actual pieces of coconut on top. These were so good, I ended up buying a box of them to bring home to my family.

-The coffee was excellent – very nice blend, it was perfect with my macaron.

It seems that all the baked goods are made in house and you can taste how fresh they are. I personally have a gluten allergy and I was so pleased to see that they had some options available for me!

Needed a large order of cupcakes and this bakery was the best choice I made. They had different flavor of cupcakes from vanilla bean, chocolate, red velvet and funfetti. The manager was so accommodating in helping me put in my order. When I arrived to pick up the order the girls that helped me were so kind. They didn’t only give me cupcakes, they made the cupcakes look beautifully presentable as an event gift. What I did to bring out the best taste in the cupcakes is that I left them on countertop for a few hours before serving. They were so moist and delicious. I wish this place was better. We had high hopes when this opened a few years ago.

-hours are 12pm to 8pm; a lot of people always* asks where to get coffee and pastries in the AM in Bergenfield. I refer them to Zais. Turns out they’re not open in the morning. -coffee, desserts and other drinks are okay. Not great. I’ve brought my nieces and nephews here. I’ve gone myself just for desserts. There’s no other option nearby.
