Worst slice of pizza I've ever had and gaslighting customer service.
Honestly, a lot of their pizza has been very good, and I have had good customer service experiences as well. However, this time both of those were absolutely horrible. I got a slice of their artichoke pizza, and after trying to eat a bite or two, it became clear that it wasn't pizza, but some kind of milky gravy with a little cheese and artichoke hearts on pizza dough. In the most non-Karen way possible I asked the employee if he could tell me what the ingredients were/how they made it, because maybe I just wasn't aware of how this specific pizza is supposed to be or taste. He literally wouldn't tell me what they made it out of or how, besides "mozzarella and artichoke hearts" and that he wasn't in charge of how they make the pizza. I asked him if he made it, and he said yes but refused to elaborate. He was incredibly rude to my inquiry and refused to tell me how the pizza I PAID for was actuslly made so I could determine if it was me, or them. My pizza tasted like someone poured gravy ontop of pizza dough with canned artichoke hearts, it was one of the worst pizza slices I ever had.
I have been a loyal customer here for over a year, and this was the last time they will ever have my business; not just because I had one of the worst pizza slices of my life, but because of defensive gaslighting customer service that refused to even...
Read morePhenomenal in all senses. Wow, so I have to say I was having a massive pizza craving and of all the spots in downtown Berkeley for that, Artichoke was one that had missed my radar for a bit. Once I had grabbed a slice out here after a night of drinks and so that full focused eating experience was beyond me that time though I did remember quite enjoying it. And I have to admit, each slice sounded so delicious this time around that I simply had to have them all- so I did! That's a feat- these slices of pizza are MASSIVE, hearty, and delicious. If you get enough to pack into a pizza box, it gets pretty comical how insane you look towing around this monster of a pizza. Anyway, the artichoke is clearly the star of the show. It's so creamy and full flavored. But don't be dissuaded from the other options here, each different slice shines and really carries itself. They do not taste like the same pizza with simply a different topping. There is a real craft to all the pizzas and variety of flavor combinations. The cooks here do an incredible job letting that come through. The staff is so awesome- friendly, professional. Could not have been happier; will be back now that I am addicted to the artichoke slice in particular. Also, try the meatballs they are worth...
Read moreComing out of college from NY, I was very much spoiled when it comes to pizza. I had not heard of this spot when I was over there but was happy to have a taste of familiarity. As a disclaimer, I am making a lot of comparisons between NY slices and this place.
A lot of people have mentioned to me when this place comes up how large the slices are. They are large yes, but only in comparison to what is considered a slice in California. Flavors are definitely there which I was very pleased by. A nice hot slice ready for you. The staff is super friendly, very much care about their work and are extremely efficient. Massive amount of respect to them working so late and keeping it going.
The only reason why I have this marked down as four stars is due to their prices. Again, in comparison to other pizza places I've been to in NY, there's no real reason a slice should cost almost $8 dollars. The only one that was really worth getting when it comes to cost to fullness ratio was the Vodka Slice. Mother of god that was good.
Is it a solid place that I would go to and keep coming back? Yes very much so! Is it a place that I would go for a full meal? I'm a pretty big eater so probably not; unless I was ordering two...
