Stop the presses! Aunt Pooey's Sweet Tooth is the place to go, if you're looking for some of the best dessert dishes in the entire Bay Area!
I've eaten many fabulous tasting cakes and cobblers from various food chains. And, I eaten some less than stellar desserts that have fallen short of squelching that sweet tooth. I'm talking from California to Louisiana. And if anyone has been to Louisiana, and eaten some of the desserts dishes, then you know exactly what I'm talking about when I tell you that Aunt Pooey will definitely take care of your sweet tooth!
I was in the mood for some homemade peach cobbler. I've been searching the greater Bay Area for most of the dessert cakes, and cobblers that Aunt Pooey offers. Up until August 5, 2024, I've been in the dark. Yes! I've been missing out.
I performed an internet search of the best peach cobbler in the Bay Area. The very first result was Aunt Pooey's Sweet Tooth, and it had a 4.9 google rating. I'm not one who takes what I read at face value. I figured the 4.9 rating needed some empirical research in order for me to provide it with an honest assestment. I understand that there's nothing better than first hand knowledge. So I decided to drive from Marin County to 3020 Sacramento Street, located in Berkeley, California.
When I arrived to the location, I though I was lost, as I was expecting to see a store with a sign that read, "Aunt Pooey's Sweet Tooth". I found nothing of the such. I figured I'd made a mistake or that the store no longer existed. I thought I'd wasted a trip to finally get my hands on some good cobbler.
I decided to park, as it was easy enough. I walked until I saw the address listed on the website. Before I could walk up to the doorway, my nose was pleasantly met with the most delicious smelling treats I've smelled in a long time! The sweet aroma could be smelled throughout the neighborhood. Wow!!! I couldn't wait to start buying and trying.
I knocked on the door and was greeted by Kajuan. He's Aunt Pooey's son. He's great. He's friendly, kind, courteous, and attentive. If you're unsure of what to get (get everything) Kajaun will help you figure it out. I truly believe there is no wrong selection, as all of the desserts are homemade, and warm, and ready to be feasted upon!
I ordered the peach cobbler, hummingbird cake, and pineapple/coconut cake. All of them were absolutely delicious. The warm baked treats danced on my tounge and made me feel as though I was sitting and enjoying my grandmother's baked treats. They were so yummy!
I can guarantee that in the event that you are searching for the perfect cale, cobbler, or pudding, you can end your search now and head directly to Aunt Pooey's, and be transported back to that nostalgic time when you couldn't wait to eat those yummy treats straight out the oven! I can't wait to go back!
When you go and visit Aunt Pooey's Sweet Tooth, make sure to encourage Aunt Pooey. I believe she was blessed to make people happy through her baking. 🙏 She is a kind soul. May your hands and your feet be bleesed, and may your inner being be given peace. Thank you for using your gift, and being willing to share it with the world.
I will definitely be going back! Pronto!

Read moreMaybe we got them on an off night? But their reviews seemed almost too good to be true and after reviewing the listed ingredients and trying 3 items, I am just not sure about the hype. Banana pudding pound cake : probably the best of the 3, but only because the Banana glaze was good. True Banana flavor. But unfortunately the cake was dry and grainy and had an unpleasant artificial taste. It also leaked all over. But I don't blame the restaurant for that. Red Velvet cake : I am a red velvet connoisseur. And I am disappointed. It is a small round bundt style cake with just a drizzle of plain frosting. It is not authentic red Velvet. It is a chocolate cake with red food dye. It is dense and kind of dry and has no red velvet flavor. Which makes sense, because there is no buttermilk or acidity ingredient. Just red food color and chocolate. No cream cheese frosting. No layers. It was not the worst. But I couldn't eat it. Peach cobbler: This was the worst. It is absolutely not enjoyable. It was very soggy. Like all one texture. It actually tasted like overcooked apple. One bite and there was no way we could eat it. No buttery flaky crust, I am thinking canned peaches in syrup. And very few ingredients listed which normally is a good thing? But I'm wondering if the lack of shortening could be part of it's demise. I am sorry Aunty Pooeys. We wanted to love...
Read moreFirst off there's nothing wrong with the atmosphere, it's just that it's just ground floor apt and you wait outside. Do not let that deter you, it's not a cafe. I'd rather have modest prices than pay much more just to look at a fancy and expensive store front. I'm here to get great food!
Wow, what a find! The people are very nice, and they have wireless pay! As stated earlier, it is in an apt/condo complex without any signage so it's easy to pass. There's a crosswalk with bright yellow pedestrian signs on a pole. It's a red zone there but that's your marker to find it easier.
I ordered
Banana pudding is delicious. It is not banana flavored pudding, you can see banana through and through, truly a pudding made with bananas.
Lemon Pound Cake is not too sweet, not too tart (personally would like a little more tartness to offset the richness but wouldn't stop me from enjoying it. You can really taste the butter, ain't no oil filler used in these bad boys.
Peach Cobbler Pound Cake, another winner. Not overly sweet, nice cinnamon layer in the cake.
Sweet Potato Pound Cake. This one is sweet but lordy it is good! Rich with spice and moist sweet potato. Dynamite combination with the subtle chai spices.
I'm just glad I don't live nearby, otherwise I know I'd be coming here too often! This is a 100% winner. Sadly I didn't get to see...
