To the girl working in the AM on 7/17/25 at Bagel Topia that asked us to get out of line when we were first timers and visiting the city. If you would have read the room you would have noticed that we are seniors and unfamiliar with the menu. You were so quick to dismiss us all to help a young couple order. It would have been nice of you to help us through the menu or perhaps make a recommendation. What you did not know was we were hungry and straight out of the hospital. That part is not your fault however, your need to move us when I walk with a cane and have to use a mobility scooter from time to time did not make sense. You made me feel like I was in the way. I would never treat any human being that way. When we left you said in a tone "Have a great day". You spent more energy on the good-bye then the hello. Well, my day was great because I went to another bagel shop where I was welcomed and treated with kindness. Now, I do not want to peg any labels on you but you should read literature regarding acts of kindness. You might make a metal paradigm shift and be excited to help us aging folk no matter how slow we are or anybody for that matter. Thank goodness several people yesterday both young and old helped us. The girl with the blue hair at the bookstore in Berkeley on second floor. The man at the vegan restaurant down by the university that went out of his way to to explain and modify selections on the menu. The girl at the cupcake shop that was kind enough to explain the menu. The used clothing store that gladly showed me where jeans were for my family member and walked us to the rack all while trailing behind my slow mobility scooter. The evening restarant we went to to eat at where the owner moved the chairs for my scooter. The lady across from the bookstore on the second floor that brought down a sweatshirt for my family member and then doubled back to ask if I wanted to go look upstairs even, if it meant she had to move things around for me to reach the elevator. My husband left your "TOPIA" restarant thinking its generational from a specific age group that behaves the way you treated us. Then, I though about what my husband said and I corrected him and explained that throughout our day yesterday it was the majority of young people that helped us. I am going to give you grace and hope and pray this is a teachable moment for you to get woke and never make someone feel the way that you made us feel. I wrote this to create awareness and perhaps you can understand the intersectionality of all people's lives. Be kind to everyone please. Kindness goes a long way. You never know what people are experiencing in life be it young or old. I am surviving well but definitely this is end stage for me. Signed, I spent $1000.00 this week in Berkeley but none of it went to your bagel shop in Diss-Topia! I don't care how good your ratings are for the quality of your food, in the end it comes down to connections to your...
Read moreBageltopia was at the annual Bizerkeley Vegan Food Fest on September 7th this year! I can’t believe this was my first time hearing of them, because I LOVE bagels.
The team was very approachable and friendly even when we were just checking out the menu. They offered 3 items for the festival. We went with the Vegan Supernova ($7) which had house-smoked carrot in place of lox (smoked salmon)! Such a great deal for a food festival in my opinion.
Every bite was so refreshing & I wish it was a full bagel so I had more to savor. I’ve never had smoked carrot before either, and honestly despite the lack of protein as a salmon replacement, it was actually really delicious. It was perfectly Smoky and even had an umami flavor profile! I was tempted to go back and ask if I could just buy a plate of the carrots.
I really enjoyed the playful vibe of their logo & wonder how their store front is decorated to match! I can’t wait to stop by to see what else they...
Read moreThere is a God!!!! Brooklyn bow down, Berkeley takes the crown. Bageltopia hits it out the park. I'm a purist when it comes to the Bagel, wanting to try everything on the menu I decided to keep it simple yet " iconic".,( a word used so much it has little true value) Going with the SALT BAGEL with light butter LOX and a slice of 🍅 The perfect crust and chewy inside that only comes from the kettle and then my taste buds started to pogo like the Ramones at CBGBs in '77 as the LOX took the stage. Not the little sliver served at other places, this was a full issue of magic, smoked in house!!!! So yes ICONIC fits , so obviously a labor of love and I'm ready to stage dive into the rest of the menu. Gotta shout out to the coffee bar next door and let's retire "iconic" from everyday vocabulary. Unless...
