I used to LOVE going to Bongo Burger on Telegraph back when I was in high school. Great burgers! However, this is obviously no longer the case.
When I first saw my burger, my heart sank--it wasn't so much a burger as it was a loaf of bread with a thin layer of meat spread on it.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this burger was 60% bread, 25% lettuce and tomato, and 15% meat. There was so little meat that it was more of a condiment on a bread and lettuce sandwich, offering a slight burger-y after taste to what tasted like a bread and lettuce sandwich.
This problem wasn't isolated to my medditeranean burger; my girlfriend's kabob wrap was also shockingly devoid of meat, causing her to question if they accidentally made her some sort of bland lettuce and onion vegetarian wrap until she got a third of the way through and finally found a small piece of meat. When she was finished, her plate was full of mounds of tortilla that she had picked off in an effort to make her kabob wrap taste more like kabob and less like the lettuce and tortilla wrap that she was served.
So sad to see what was once a great restaurant stoop so low as this. I get that the restaurant industry is hard, but cutting down on your meat servings to the point that your burgers taste more like bread than meat isn't going to be your...
Read moreBurgers are decent. Fries are okay, but too salty for my preference. I'll probably not come back out of spite and I won't be missing much. I left my SO to watch the car in case it was an issue that the back was peeking into a yellow curb. Apparently it was, because Mr. Bongo Burger Van Driver double parked to yell at my SO for being in the yellow zone, completely ignoring the pickup truck behind me fully taking up the yellow space. I guess he was taking it out on her because the pickup driver wasn't present. She was a little shook and I came back and yelled at him back that I would try to make space but I guess he was already done with what he needed to do because he just drove away. Gave her a scare for nothing. I resent him and the restaurant...
Read moreI LOVE this place. I ALMOST DIDN'T WANT TO REVIEW IT BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE OTHERS DESERVE THIS GREAT FLAVOR.
For over 40 years, Ali and his staff, have served not only the city's cheapest and best breakfast, but also captured the taste buds of the east bay with their lamb kebabs, lamb burgers, and their special, the "Persian burger" a long lamb patty grilled and then seasoned with Sumac, (More accurately called "Zatar" in some places") using their special blend, that Ali also sells to other vendors in California. Try a Persian burger and fries, and you too, will know the truth. Also available are several gluten free, and vegetarian options. Highly...
