With the abundance of great Thai food in Berkeley, this one definitely was a downer. We learned only upon payment time that they only accept cash. There was no visible "CASH ONLY" sign in sight when I was there, so this caught us by surprise. The person at the table next to us had to leave his stuff (at the advice of the waitor) and run back to his place to get cash.
Apart from the lack of communication about payment options, the food was also unimpressive. I ordered the pineapple fried rice, which comes with a meat of your choice. I chose chicken. Unfortunately, the dish came with one extra piece of beef - which would have been a big problem for some people with dietary restrictions. Luckily I don't have any food restrictions, and I mentioned it to the waiter as an FYI, but allowed it to slide. Besides that, the "pineapple" fried rice had little to no pineapple.
The price was decent, and is about average relative to other places in the area, but honestly I expected more food for what I paid. The interior design is well kept, and looked clean. I didn't go inside the restroom (though a shabby homeless person barged through the restaurant directly to the restaurant as the waitor failed to get his attention and stop him). I'm surprised to be writing this, as I'm generally not too critical and very forgiving, but I most certainly won't be...
Read moreVisited with my family on a Tuesday night and surprisingly the restaurant was packed. We thought all the dishes tasted incredibly delicious and authentic, with the prices being reasonable. For appetizers, we indulged in curry puffs, satay chicken (served with peanut sauce), and fried spring rolls. Moving on to the entrees, we savored their rich and creamy yellow chicken curry, flavorful pad see ew with tofu, mild spicy fried rice, and the chef's recommendation— the Moo Dang dry noodle which turned out to be my favorite.
Following our satisfying meal, our desserts arrived. We opted for the classic mango sticky rice and their Valentine's special dessert— strawberry mochi ice cream with strawberry whipped cream! Heaven for strawberry lovers.
The service was very welcoming, attentive and friendly. The interior was full of beautiful Valentine's decorations, such as cute hearts! They even featured a love month menu with special drinks such as their Love Potion and Love is In The Air.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this place. This restaurant gives cozy and lovely vibes, making it an ideal choice for a special Valentines day...
Read moreI think we may have found one of the best places to get Thai food in Berkeley! Little Plearn sure was little, but all tables were constantly full throughout our visit - which is great considering it was a week night and pouring rain! Service was great, the dishes were packed with flavor, and prices are very reasonable for the portions given. I highly recommend adding this place to your list if you're in the mood for Thai food!
