Sconehenge Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Berkeley

Cute & very popular brunch spot that blends Mexican & American breakfast foods but nothing to write home about.

Service was very busy but sweet. Attentive, filled waters, and accommodating for our large group of diners by putting together tables and chairs for us. About a 15-20 minute wait.

June's Omelette ($16) - Omelette with chicken sausage, spinach, and mushrooms. For some reason mine was missing cheese, which the chef came over to inform me about but did not offer to give me any cheese or replace the meal, which I thought was odd. The cheese must carry the dish because I found it a bit unimpressive and bland. Hashbrowns were alright, if underseasoned. The scone was good, crumbly and already buttery on its own. This place, alternately a gun store, Creamery, a refrigerator outlet, a couple of different cafes, and a real estate office over the past eight decades, has now settled into its current identity, sconehenge Bakery & Cafe, apparently a favorite of Berkeley's elderly who populate the cafe as I speak. Putting down a very straight ahead all American breakfast, reminiscent of one a person might find at Denny's, Sam's, or one of the old school breakfast places. We tried Sc'affle — the taste was average. The coffee was served in a glass water cup, which was a first for me :) The staff were friendly and attentive. However, since almost everything had eggs, it's not really suitable for vegans. I wish there were vegan options too — that would’ve made me happy :)

🍀Update: Since the menu didn’t indicate that the listed dishes could be prepared in a vegan-friendly way, I didn’t think of asking at the time and didn’t want to cause any inconvenience.
