Full disclosure -- this is my mom's bakery. But I want to use this review to give you a behind the scenes look at the hard work and dedication behind Bunnycakes.
Bunny had me when she was 19 years old (and she did a pretty darn good job! I'm now an Emmy Award Winning TV Host and food and travel journalist who has reported on food across 4 continents... but anyway...).
To make ends meet, she used her creativity to generate income on the side of her day job. She sold paintings, sewed clothing, made artsy decorations that she sold at festivals and craft fairs, and of course, she baked cakes and cookies. She's an incredibly talented visual artist, and found a lot of joy channeling that skill into designing custom made cakes and cookies for friends and family, which she taught herself how to do over 25 years ago.
Eventually, she put herself through nursing school, which afforded her more time and resources to continue expanding her pastry knowledge. And after two decades of hard work, she was able to open her bakery, Bunnycakes where she shares her love of cakes and cookies and even teaches others how they can make beautiful desserts in their own kitchens. It's also worth noting that Bunny kindly shares this knowledge with other women who use these skills to develop their own financial independence, something that she herself had done years ago.
Bunnycakes is an independent Black woman-owned bakery. When you're ordering from Bunnycakes, you're ordering directly from the baker herself. Every recipe and every design is created by Bunny, a baker who has been featured widely in Philadelphia media as well as on the Food Network.
She genuinely LOVES developing unique designs for people's special occasions. She lights up when people come to her with inventive themes (ask her about the Game of Thrones baby shower).
Anyway -- all that to say, Bunny takes a lot of pride in her work. It's taken her a lifetime to get to this point which she doesn't take for granted -- and when you place an order with Bunnycakes, the decades of dedication and effort she has put in to this business is channeled into every...
Read more(November 2019)This is not a full time bakery and only completes priority orders. After many delayed communications and verifying availability I received an email denying the completion of my order. This message was sent two weeks after my initial contact. Very much a disappointment and really just didn’t feel that professional. I was referred based on taste and art quality...... no mention of the lack of commitment.
(March 2022)This review is not intended to misinform. I made sure to say that I was referred for the taste and was disappointed in the customer service I received, only to imply that expectation should not get ahead of you when attempting to do business with this establishment. Communication is very important and it is much different to tell an eager and committed customer that you are available than to have said that if a bigger order comes along I will be bumped. I can only try to imagine how demanding being a business owner especially during a pandemic could be but not every customer is shopping around…. Some customers may have heard about you and really looked forward to enjoying your treats in not just one way.. both beauty and taste. Clapping back at negativity is no way to live(nor professional, take the high road and let your actions speak for themselves!). I am certainly not looking for anyone to explain themselves only to value people no matter the size of their order.
Side note: I wish more business owners would take the time to respond to their positive comments…. ESPECIALLY since people in general are quicker to take their time to be negative so if someone left positive feedback that is what should be embraced and encouraged. Positivity has passion with accurate details where negative is most times only in the OPINION of a single mind.

Read moreThis was by far the best experience I have ever had for a cookie decorating class. My first class at Bunncakes was a Mastering Royal Icing Class where I learned how to decorate six sugar cookies. We learned how to create different consistencies that helped give our cookies dimension and a more realistic look. Bunny does a great job with giving each individual the support that they need and makes it so much fun to be a part of. Since then I have taken her Cookies & Sip class with my mom as well as her more Advanced Decorating Classes that focused on Airbrushing and adding other details. I was also the lucky winner of a cupcake decorating class where I was able to learn new and fun techniques to up my cupcake game. Bunny also offers a Facebook group for those that have taken her Mastering Royal Icing Classes where others can share tips and tricks they've learned on their decorating journeys. Bunny is alway there to offer support and answer any questions we have. Thank you so much for...
