This was our first time ever trying Twisters, and unfortunately, it will be our last. We were just passing through town on a road trip, and we wanted something quick and convenient by the hotel. We placed a pick up order online, which is managed through Selflane. Placing the order was relatively easy, but the rest of the experience was disappointing.
The order gave a pick up time, so we arrived at the stated time to pick up our order. We did not walk out of the restaurant with food until 30 minutes later.
Regarding the food, we were expecting typical fast food, but it was subpar relative to other fast food joints. All American burger was ordered with ketchup and pickles, but it had neither. The burger consisted of a plain bun, a patty, and a slice of soy cheese, which makes it an all Chinese burger? New Mexican chicken sandwich was bland and pretty flavorless. The crispy chicken was essentially a large version of a McD's chicken nugget. The green chiles were pretty sparse and probably out of a can. The shredded lettuce tasted old. Taco was bland and boring. Taco salad was missing ingredients. The fries were adequately cooked, but were not salted. I've had better Ore Ida fries baked in an oven. The "dragonfruit" lemonade is just very sweet strawberry lemonade. -The sopapillas were sopamissing.
The sign outside says "Twisters Thank You", but my 9-year old daughter noticed that it had been defaced, and she asked me, "Dad, why does that sign say "f* you"?" So that was a fun conversation while we waited.
If this is just the way their food tastes, I think it's time for Twisters to get twisted by a twister. You can get better food for almost half the price at other fast food restaurants, you don't have to wait 30 minutes for it, and you don't have to try to explain why the restaurant sign has the...

One of several Twisters locations dotting the Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Bernalillo area, this cafe is a short 10-minute walk from the Rail Runner station. Upon entering, you're greeted by a friendly and attentive cashier/server who often engages in banter with the local townspeople, calling them by name. This camaraderie is a testament to the establishment's popularity among the locals.
My recommendation? Try the carne adovada burrito smothered in red chile sauce. The generous portion, almost a foot in length, is a flavorful masterpiece that will leave you in awe. Each bite is a burst of authentic Northern New Mexico flavors, making you realize that this is how real New Mexican food should taste. While the chile is classified as mild, it packs a punch for those unaccustomed to the spicy heat of New Mexico cuisine.
Although all Twisters cafes uphold the same quality of food, the Bernalillo location holds a special place in many hearts due to its cozy, community ambiance. The counter person's genuine concern for my dining experience, asking if everything was alright, was met with a wide grin and an honest assurance that the food was...
Read moreOne of the things we look forward to when visiting Albuquerque is a visit to Twisters. I know they're not limited to New Mexico, but that's where we visit Twisters the most.
Twisters is a regional fast-casual Mexican eatery that offers a number of menu items that are outside the normal scope of Mexican eateries. On a previous visit I tried and burger (not your normal Mexican fare) and it was surprisingly good. Not to mention another chain by name, but it should ring a Bell. It's counter service, then wait for your order to be called. The gentleman who took our order was also managing drive-thru orders, so he was hustling.
We visited after the lunch rush (we're smart that way), so our food delivery was less than 10 minutes. Our orders were hot and fresh and accurate (see the accompanying photo for proof). During the entirety of our stay we were the only customers in the dining room.
The pinto beans and the rice were pretty average. I had two ground beef tacos, which were very good, but the shredded chicken taco was definitely the Best In Show.
The dining room was very clean and the trash had recently been emptied, so high marks on dining room cleanliness. A bit High-Five to Twisters for having All Gender restrooms!
We look forward to our visits to Albuquerque every two or three years, and Twisters is a must-visit...
