I will preface this by stating that our party understood by visiting on a holiday like Valentine's Day, we may face SOME "higher than normal" wait times. Note: Valentine's Day offering included Live mariachi music from 6-9pm. Reservations were suggested via social media posts.
We had a reservation for 8:30 and arrived about 10-15mins early. Upon checking in, we were promptly seated in a booth next to the bar. Within a few minutes, we were brought some chips and salsa. Our waiter took our drink order.
And that's when things started to go downhill. We munched on the fresh chips and salsa but after 15 mins of no drinks, we had not been checked on, still waiting to place our order, and not even water was offered. After being seated for 30+ mins, I flagged down our waiter for some water. Meanwhile, I watched the bar in hopes of seeing our drinks being made.
In the midst of all this, at least 2 different couples were seated at the bar, received their drinks AND appetizers while we waited for our drinks.
Finally the first round of drinks arrived for our table of 2. And we were able to place our dinner order ~45mins after being seated. My partner immediately ordered a second drink with his meal because we knew it would take awhile.
We were famished at this point, nearly 1hr after being seated. We regretted not ordering appetizers immediately had we known we would have to sit and anxiously wait to order and receive our meal.
Once we actually received our entrees, I ordered my second drink. I think we were just REALLY hungry but the surf & turf fajitas and carnitas entrees tasted fine-- little less spice and seasoning that expected for authentic Mexican cuisine but in line with the blander offerings of other local Mexican restaurants. Decent portion size.
I was halfway through my entree when I received my second drink [frozen piña colada] so it was more of a dessert to end an exhausting 1.5hr+ meal. Typically, I always like to tip 20% but even the tip we left felt not worthy of being left unattended majority of the night. At least another round of drinks and possibly apps or sides could've been added to our bill so lost opportunity on revenue for the restaurant. It was a bit frustrating having to spend most of my time there scanning for our waiter and looking for our drinks and food to arrive. It made it difficult to actually focus on a nice evening spent with my partner. Especially after watching multiple couples arrive after us, eat/drink and be exiting while we still wait to finish.
While we are still on the fence on possibly returning, overall, the food and the drinks were good but I would recommend to visit during off peak times or sit at the bar! Apparently that's the best seat...
Read moreI was in Connecticut for the day visiting a relative with my mom and always love trying a new Mexican restaurant since it's my favorite type of food. The reviews looked great as well. We went at about 3pm and we were the only table there. The waitress was friendly and the place was adorably decorated. Service was quick. Unfortunately, the food was so disappointing. My mom liked the tortilla chips, but I didn't care for them. To be fair, that could be a matter of preference, as I prefer that the tortilla chips not be so puffy as they were clearly fried in a lot of oil. The salsa looked like an almost pinkish liquid, with no chunks of tomato or onion. My mom and I ordered cheese and chicken enchiladas with red sauce so we could share both kinds. She said to me what I was thinking... the food was bland and could have been hotter. That same red sauce from the tortilla chips was poured on top of the enchiladas with a couple of rings of raw onion tossed on top, which was very strange. There was no cilantro in anything, the most notable missing flavor. The yellow rice and refried beans were also completely bland. The dull flavors unfortunately matched the dull color of the food's appearance. In looking through other people's photos at this restaurant, the food looked so much nicer than what we were served. I had high hopes for this restaurant as the ambiance and the service were good, but the food left much...
Read moreWe were hearing lots of great things about Casa Oaxaca. We stopped in on a Taco Tuesday. Plenty of parking in the lot. Really great decor. Plenty of seating on both sides of the restaurant including a nice bar area. There’s also a tv in the bar area for sporting events. Very clean restaurant and a great staff. When we were leaving, I noticed the tortillas being made fresh in the front of the restaurant. Made the experience even better.
The food is amazing. They start you off with chips and salsa. We came during happy hour on a Taco Tuesday. We wanted to get a little of everything to try. Everything had great flavors. My favorite taco we had were the Carnitas. Really delicious chimichangas with a fresh guacamole. The empanadas were fried perfectly. The were filled to capacity. It was not like other places that put a little meat in the middle and it’s mostly shell. To end the night we ordered churros. Freshly fried with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Really finished off the great experience. Definitely looking forward to...
