I recently had my very first Lehigh Pizza experience as my wife and I drove through Bethlehem on the way back to Florida after spending Christmas in New York City. My wife was born in Bethlehem and lived there until her family moved when she was in middle school. She talks about the place lovingly and always mentions Lehigh Pizza when she does. She hadn't been back in decades, and I thought taking her to her old stomping grounds would be a nice treat. When I told her where we were going, she was super excited and the very first thing she did was google Lehigh Pizza to make sure it still existed. I was so happy to hear that this place that meant so much to her as a kid was still around. I was a little worried that the place might not live up to her expectations as we all have a tendency to romanticize and hold on a pedestal that which we loved as a child. I needn't have worried. It was our first stop in town and Lehigh Pizza did not disappoint. First, it's just a solid pie. Good crust, quality toppings and perfectly cooked. Second, the place has a classic old school pizzeria vibe to it with absolutely no pretense. Just what you'd expect and want from a working-class college town. Finally, the staff, particularly the manager/owner who helped us (not exactly sure of his title), was super friendly and engaging. They treated us like regulars even though nobody there had ever laid eyes on us prior to that visit. I would definitely go back for these reasons alone but wanted to share something else from our visit.
When I was paying the bill, I noticed some pens in an old Lehigh Pizza coffee mug by the register. Don't typically see pizza places with their own coffee mugs for sale, but I inquired if they had any mugs for sale or any that they be willing to sell even if they didn't. I was told no initially. However, after hearing my wife was from Bethlehem and had literally grown up on Lehigh Pizza, the manager/owner offered, despite being busy, to go upstairs and look to see if he could find one. A few minutes later, he returned with a coffee mug and a Lehigh T-shirt he thought my wife might appreciate. The fact that he took the time when he could have easily said no and left it at that meant everything. Now, for the past month, my wife has enjoyed her morning coffee or tea every day from her Lehigh Pizza mug, sometimes while wearing her Lehigh Pizza t-shirt. It is a little piece of home and absolutely her new prized possession. Thank you, Lehigh Pizza and keep up the good work. I see you all will be celebrating 50 years in business this year. Congratulations and...
Read moreOrdered via grubhub. The fries in the bacon cheese fries were under cooked. It had plenty of bacon which was a plus, but almost no cheese. It would have been nice if the fries were salted as well. Or even an option to possibly choose how well fried you prefer and if you want salt added. The baked potato had no described toppings but butter and the menu provides no option to choose, so I assumed they decide the toppings. The meatball parm is way over priced. They charge 18$ for a 15", but it's filled with small meatballs and has less meatballs than a 12" subs at most places. There was very little sauce and cheese on it, and was extremely dry due to the huge roll and really small meatballs. There was enough room left for at least 3 more meatballs. Very poor bread to meat ratio. Their sub would be 100% better if they increased the meatball size enough to fill the roll, it would not only adress the meat to bread ratio, but also make customers feel they are getting what they paid for. It did taste good but I'd never pay more than 10$ for something like that in the future. I basically paid for a 12" sub with 3" of empy roll. The salad was decent. Not the best or worst I've had. It has a very low meat and cheese content, i think maybe one slice of cheese rolled up and maybe 2 slices of each meat. It was lazily prepared, filled with whole peppers, they the did not even remove the stems or top. When i order this type of salad, I normally expect a decent meat ratio, and not a salad thats not even mixed up. It was jus random piles of each ingredient. And honestly, it is a bit ridiculous that you have to pay extra to get dressing with your salad. I've never encountered any resturant or diner that makes you pay to get dressing for a salad. They need to update their grubhub menu to allow comments on an item. Even with the complaints the overall taste of the food was good, just not satisfactory...
Read moreUnfortunately this pizza place has gone downhill in the past several years. I too have had the ungodly amount of extra cheese put on my pie only to have all the cheese end up on the side of the box.
Just recently after a couple of years of not ordering from them I ordered a meatball parm. Since the food takes a while to get here, I ask for everything to be packaged separately so I don't have a soggy sandwich to eat. They did all that just fine but someone decided it was ok to cut the bread ON TOP! Who in their right mind cuts bread on top? Please tell me this isn't some trend a worker saw on TikTok and decided it was the best way to eat a meatball parm. Also the two liter coke was opened. I threw away the soda because of concern that someone spit in it. I also threw away the bread because there is no way that anyone can eat a sub in that manner and enjoy it. If you want really good pizza, take a drive and go to Westgate pizza.
Also, in regards to another review on here regarding having to return the food because they want to make sure no one is faking and getting free food. Maybe you should keep tabs on your loyal customers that spend hundreds of dollars on your business. If they spend lots of money and consistently frequent your business, I doubt they would be faking anything wrong with the food to get it for free.
I suggest that anyone giving their hard earned money to local business to please leave an honest review to get these businesses to start treating their customers with respect and properly...
