First of all, let me just make it clear that I LOVE the items & options Katie's Custard has, which is the ONLY reason I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 at this time, but their drive-thru & customer service have much to be desired. Yes, their products are great, but that also means you sit & wait in line for a bit. This time, it was half an hour for me just to get to the window & be told they were out of vanilla custard when all I wanted was a regular vanilla cone. I had sat in line & waited since 15 minutes until they closed at 10PM for a regular vanilla cone. So since they were out of vanilla custard, I settled for a mint chocolate chip cyclone (even though I'm not suppose to have a lot of chocolate because it can cause my chronic migraines to flare up). Then I asked just a simple yes or no question of could I get like $1 off or something on the vanilla cone I originally wanted if I came back the very next day for it, & the customer service experience I received went south very quickly. The girl at the window first asked her manager that was there & I could clearly see them laughing about what I was even asking. Then the manager on duty comes to the window & asks me what exactly I was asking (as if she didn't already know and/or understand), so I repeated myself to her. She responded with they stop making custard a certain amount of time before closing, & when they're out, they're out. She went on to explain that they had the lights turned off since 10PM (closing time), but cars continued to just get in line regardless & that's not her fault or problem (insinuating that I was one of these vehicles that did so). I then explained to her that I had been sitting in line since a quarter of 10:00 to which she responded "There is no way you were sitting in line any 30 minutes!", yet I did. All establishment lights were still very much on when I got in the drive-thru line-Check your cameras!! The fact that I did sit & wait in the drive-thru line for half an hour for a vanilla cone is essentially the reason I did settle on going on & just getting a mint chocolate chip cyclone in the first place as they only had chocolate or butter pecan custard left (despite the fact that I am not suppose to have a lot of chocolate). So in addition to wasting half an hour in line for the treat I wanted but was unable to get, I was essentially also accused of being a liar by not just an employee here, but apparently a manager. As an individual that has worked in hospitality for the last 6 years, if this is the way a manager from this establishment is allowed to speak to a customer, then this place should really consider retraining their recruits or should be shut down completely. At this point, should I choose to even go back to this poorly run establishment, I feel like I am certainly owed a little more than $1 off a regular vanilla cone now due to the way I was talked to & treated. After all, all I asked was a simple yes or no question that Katie's employees ended up blowing up into a big deal...I feel like all of the rudeness & poor customer service I received was very unnecessary & could have certainly...
Read moreIâve never written a review before, but my experience at Katieâs Custard in Waco was frustrating enough that I felt like I needed to speak up.
First off, we had to wait over three minutes in the scorching Texas heat after ringing the bell for outdoor serviceâmeanwhile, the staff prioritized the drive-thru. I understand drive-thru times matter, but customers standing outside shouldnât be ignored.
Then thereâs the pricing, which is way off from whatâs listed online. The online menu is much cheaper, and it hasnât been updated, which feels really misleading. On top of that, the portions were tinyâshockingly small for the price. If I had known how small they were, I wouldnât have ordered.
My boyfriend ordered a sundae and asked for a medium but got a small instead. The woman at the register kept asking if he wanted liquid fudge and whipped creamânever disclosing that those were an extra $2. He assumed they were just clarifying what came with the sundae. His total went from $9 to $11 for a small. Mine was nearly $8 for a small as well.
We ended up paying almost $18 total for two tiny desserts, and honestly, it was just not worth it. This place price gouges like crazy, and the lack of transparency was the most frustrating part. It felt like they were just trying to upsell without being honest about it.
I wonât be back. There are better dessert spots in Waco that actually give you fair portions and honest service.
Iâd give it 0 stars if I could. Even Andyâs is cheaper than this and you get twice the amount. Didnât even get our order right. Wish we could...
Read moreHave you heard the good word of Katie Custard? Oh yes, Iâm sure youâve heard about the key lime pie shake. Maybe even the strawberry shortcake custard with chunks of shortbread flirting with the line betwixt fluffily dreamy lightweight tastebud surfer and hefty cakey moist tastebud skier. Shortbread with just enough play to gently hold the creamy folds of vanilla custard and fresh strawberry slices in one place as you greedily smash your spoon into your cup, feverishly gulping it down in a manic state of bliss. Hey there, guy, this is Waco. It is illegal to roll your eyes into the back of your head and groan with bliss from a frozen custard okay? But yes; Iâm sure youâve heard all about this. Iâm here to blow your mind though. And I will blow it with something you probably havenât tried. The burgers. The chili burgers and frito pie here are absurdly delicious. I havenât ever left a bite behind, and I never will. Thereâs just something about that chili..not too over the top spicy yet bursting with flavor. Make sure and add some jalepanos for a spice kick and a salty/vinegar touch that is outrageous. I DO NOT WORK HERE, I donât even go here often enough for them to recognize me and hook me up so I am writing this review strictly to share the good word of Katie. Getcha some chili burgers allright? Oh yeah...they are cheap as McDonaldâs and yet 99.7% more...
