So I wake up on a beautiful morning. Fresh out of my usually reoccurring dream of country fried steak. In a great mood, I greet my wife in the study. After a few minutes of enjoying each others company in silence. I can’t hold it in any more “would you like to go to the country kitchen?” I yelp in excitement! Of course she says yes, as it is our new favorite restaurant! After a few hours we are approaching dinner time. We pull in and are both a little nervous walking in. But thankfully we are greatest by the nicest southern bell we’ve encountered in recent memory. She escorts us to our table all while making small talk about our day. Which was nice as it really made us feel like we were back home country of Poland. She sounds a little bit like mike Tyson (but in a good way) But with all the charm of a lady. She ask me what I wanted to eat. unfortunately country fried steak was not on the menu for the day. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. I haven’t felt such a gut punch since I lost my babushka. I could tell she could sense the pain in my voice when I responded with a simple ok. But she was quick to recommend the taco salad. I was hesitant on trying to replace my beloved country fried steak. But I could tell by looking in here eyes that I could trust her with my life in that exact moment. So I preceded to go by her recommendation and order the taco salad. After just a few moments she came back out with our meals. It looked delicious. From the crispy lettuce to the fresh shredded cheese complementing the meat. It was the epitome Of a taco salad! Each bite somehow was more delicious then the last. Every taste bud in my mouth just exploding with delight. It was a personal moment...
Read moreI don’t usually leave reviews like this, but my experience was unpleasant enough that it needs to be said. The owner’s attitude is consistently rude and unprofessional — she seems to have no interest in creating a welcoming environment, which makes the entire dining experience uncomfortable and, honestly, embarrassing. It’s hard to enjoy a meal when you feel like an inconvenience just for walking through the door. To make things worse, the hours are almost never accurate. The place is often closed during posted open hours, or shuts down early without notice. It’s incredibly unreliable. For a town that thrives on small, community-focused businesses, this spot feels like a wasted opportunity — especially when so many others could use the space to actually welcome customers instead of alienating them. The food itself is equally underwhelming. Every dish tastes the same — bland, uninspired, and lacking any real flavor. It’s as if everything comes from the same base and gets reheated with no creativity or care. Between the owner’s behavior, the inconsistent hours, and the forgettable food, there’s really nothing drawing me back here. I’d much rather support places that value their customers and actually...
Read moreBest kept cozy secret is out in Big stone gap at The Country Kitchen😍. The employees are always welcoming and friendly when I've stopped in and I love the hallway leading up to the restaurant dine in/eatery area that have some unique and interesting antique decor to see. Food wise, I've had their Chicken and dumplings, meat loaf, catfish and stuffed peppers and when I first rolled into town a few years back while rving and decided to call these lush mountains home, I was hooked as their cooking is quite tastey, fair priced and warming to my soul. I'm not much of a cook myself and so in all transparency since my best friend and my beloved Nanny passed on roughly 2 years ago Country kitchen meals have been a true comfort to my heart, reminding me of my Grandmothers homecooked meals and that feeling of "home" for me personally. So yep, I am grateful🙏❤️. Thank you...
