So today I post with hopes to not offend but to try and educate or help. I was super excited to try the new Mexican place in the Heights today, Don Chuy. I wanted to have lunch with my daughter before she leaves next week for college. I have read amazing reviews and wanted to hopefully find a good Mexican place close to home. However our experience was less than impressive. Now, I know restaurants are a tough start and that is acceptable especially if the food is good however after about 30ish minutes of not even getting a drink order in I was done. I fully support a family run business but if you are going to have your 13-15yro kid wait tables you should probably teach them how to do it properly and not correct them in front of customers.
When we got in there were two tables and one person at the bar. It wasn't slammed. I was starting to think you ordered at the bar but realized no, they come to the table (after the "waiter" said he would be right with us). After about 10min we got a single menu, not huge deal but being just paper you would think you would get one for each person. The "waiter" then walked away. Didn't offer drinks, chips and salsa, nothing.
Another about 10min goes by, I see a guy that walked in order, get his food, and leave. The "waiter" walks by and says "Ill be right with you", moves dirty plates on two tables (didn't bus them) then was just standing behind the counter. The lady in the back was avoiding us as well it seemed as she came back and forth up front, made eye contact and nothing.
Now one of the tables I mentioned was in there asked where their food was. The lady asked the "waiter" and apparently he never put it in. They were about to leave as they had been waiting awhile as well (they seemed rather over it). She told them they would get their food right out. At this point neither came back to our table so we left.
Not a great first impression for a new restaurant. It seemed clean (way cleaner than taco bell!) But they need to get things sorted or it won't last. Being inconsistent kills resteraunts. I hope it gets right because we definitely need more good restaurants in...
Read moreMy family of 7 went here on New Years Day, after seeing quite a few positive reviews online and via facebook. It was strange to have to stand at the counter to order - there was an individual in front of us, so we had to wait to see the one singular menu. We ordered a variety of items; totaling $113. We had specifically ordered guacamole to eat with our chips and salsa; it came out AFTER all the other meals were delivered...and had zero flavor. We were POURING salt on it just to be able to eat it. There was no zest from cilantro or lime, just flavorless watery avocados. Yuck. Our food came out one at a time for all 7 of us. It was probably 10 minutes between the first served family member and the last. And each dish was more unpalatable than the next - the TexMex burrito had zero flavor and had rubbery chicken, plus it was cold. The enchiladas were so spicy that my teenager daughter couldn't even eat them, and she eats flaming hot Cheetos! She was literally in tears. The milanese chicken was tough and rubbery, the bean burrito had no flavor and the mole was just plan disgusting. It was SUPER disappointing to our family, who had chosen just ONE restaurant to eat out at over our 10 day holiday together, to pay $113 for flavorless, super spicy yucky food that we couldn't eat at all, much less together. We left and went to Sonic, and were amazed at the flavor we found there. SO DISAPPOINTING. NOT WORTH THE...
Read moreI went here with my boyfriend, we ordered a chimichanga and tamales. The best part of the entire dish was rice and beans, chimichanga had no flavor and no toppings, tamales were dry and didn't seem fresh. The salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce with added spice and onions, not good I only ate chips. When we arrived the server was helping other people with ice cream, so we were patiently waiting. Once she arrived she asked if my boyfriend was military, he said yes and she questioned him so many questions about it that he finally said why are you asking, to which she replied her husband was military. Mostly unprofessional, we got our food and didn't get checked on the entire time to the point we had to go ask for a box to go. We got ice cream cause I was craving something sweet, I was asking for taste tests and just asking what was in certain ice creams, my boyfriend noticed her rude looks at me and getting annoyed, I noticed when she had told me she didn't know what went in the ice creams and I can ask the cook cause that's who makes it, again unprofessional. Overall service was rude and terrible, food was not that great, we won't be back. Don't recommend for authentic...
