Taco Mama - The Summit — Restaurant in Birmingham

Excellent location around several really great businesses and a movie theatre allowing for a good dinner and a movie . The store is a decent size and sometimes crowded depending on time of visit . I like the festive , colourful decor as well as both indoor and outdoor seating . Has a large selection of tasty margaritas as well as some good sweet tea. Food has several options to build your own tasty masterpiece and the ingredients are of decent quality. I am more a burrito and nacho guy. Both are filling but the nachos are usually stacked as I usually go with the pork for a few extra calories since pork is a but more fatty and has some excellent flavor along with queso dip that is complementary .

Most meals come with chips and salsa and the salsa is like a puree kind with options of other kinds but be sure to ask .

Price for the burrito is close to market value in the build your own burrito franchises .

Wait usually not bad unless after church but again its worth the wait .

Service and staff have always been really quick , prompt and courteous as well as actually cleaning my seat .

Drink fountain is help yourself and pretty user friendly .

Seating inside and limited seating outside but again the place is usually busy so its nobody's fault . In other words no complaints

The reasoning behind my 3 stars is purely due to taste. I like the atmosphere but I've been in search of some amazing street tacos in Alabama since eating at Por que no? In Portland, Oregon and Sir Veza's in Tucson, AZ. I came to Taco Mama based on all of the amazing reviews. I ordered the Mayor and Justice is Served with Shrimp. I really hate to say that these tacos were pretty much flavorless except for the salsa I had to drench them in. The chicken is shredded so there's definitely no flavor there, and they overcrowd the taco with it. When I bit into my Justice is Served taco it was like I was eating pure cole slaw and I didn't get any avocado and tartar until the very last bite. I was really leaning toward building my own taco, but I never imagined that I would have to worry about there not being any flavor in these tacos at all. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever eaten, but the lack of flavor was so very disappointing. If you are a foodie, you probably won't enjoy Taco Mama as much as everyone else. Perfect and...

Very disappointed. I typically am pleased here but had a bad experience tonight. I called in an order for my son. I ordered the kids nachos with extra beef. I paid, took my order home, and then realized after getting home they gave me the wrong order. I had to return with the food to tell them they made a mistake. I was okay because I understand mistakes happen. I would be fine if I had just gotten an apology, but I was insulted when the woman offered me a card for a free side of black beans next time I order. Black beans have to be the worst side there is. I'm sure they have to throw out black beans at the end of the day. I don't want anything free, I just want what I paid for the first time. If you want to offer me a free side at least let me pick the side, not your left overs no one wants. Needless to say, that is my last purchase from toco mama.
