I can handle mistakes and broken product, but I can't handle rude, dismissive employees.
The Backstory: I went on a cruise this week. I didn't have any pool/beach shoes because my house burned down a couple of months ago. Before we left for the cruise, I stopped by a Nordstrom Rack in New Orleans to buy a pair of pool shoes.(it was the only store around) I settled for some EVA Birkenstocks. Once we got on the ship, my friend and I peeled the Nordstrom price stickers off of the footbed of the shoes. We were bummed to see that the sticker peeled the logo off of the footbed, but it didn't really matter.
An hour later I went to put on my new Birkenstocks to go to the pool. To my disappointment, I discovered that one of the shoes was missing a buckle. super let down, I put the shoes back in the bag and wore my tennis shoes for the entire week at the pool and beach.
When I arrived back in New Orleans, the Nordstrom store was closed, so I was forced to return my shoes in Birmingham, where I live.
The Birmingham Store Story: My son and I drove 30 minutes, in the rain, down 280 to return my broken birkenstocks. When I arrived at the counter, I pulled the shoes out, told the cashier what happened, and told her I needed a refund.
The cashier went over and got her manager. The manger walked up to the register, glanced at the shoes, cut her eyes at me, and said "I can't return those." I flipped over the shoes, showed her that the bottoms were new and they had not been worn. She rolled her eyes at me and stared at me for a few seconds. I told her that their price sticker had peeled off the logo on the footbed when I removed it. I assured her that they had never been worn and were broken when I bought them.
The manager blew her breath, told the associate to "just return them" and walked off. The sales associate finished the transaction, didn't say a word to me, and handed me my receipt. I had to ask her if the money had been returned to the card because she wouldn't even look at me.
I had planned to shop around the store after making my return, but the manager here made sure I'll never be back. I walked next door and spent my money at REI instead.
This store hasn't been open long enough to have such terrible customer service. Hope you guys can find a new manager before you have to close your doors. People don't forget...
Read moreLong time shopper (in store) of Nordstrom Rack. Other than crowds, a pleasant experience and quality products. Based upon these experiences, I made a purchase of a sports coat the website indicated was in stock (color and size). Made the purchase 14 days in advance of event I needed it for. Seven days after the order was placed, I get an email stating shipping was being delayed (inexcusable for items sold as in stock). Eleven days after the order, I finally was able to get in touch with a customer service rep (forget chatting online even though that is an offered method of contact - after initiating a chat, it always says no one is available). Barbara was very customer service friendly and that was appreciated. I explained I wanted to cancel the order due to delayed shipping and need of item in 3 days. She advised she could not cancel the order but would send it to the shipping dept. - NOPE I have already had a processed payment, waited 11 days on an item - I am not waiting to receive the order and then having to go through the hassle of return shipping since Nordstroms sold me an in stock item that they could not fulfill/deliver. Barbara stated she would expedite the cancellation and explained how to contact shipping if I had not received correspondence within 24 hrs. I appreciated Barbara (certainly not her fault), but the experience has soured me on Nordstrom business practices regarding online orders. ONLINE...
Read moreThe review complaining about the used bag is silly, to say the least. Nothing wrong with recycling.
I mostly enjoyed my time at the store -- been waiting to go in since it opened. There was a wide selection of items at very good prices, including clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and hats. It's what I'd expect from a good Nordstrom Rack.
I have just two things keeping me from giving it five stars: the suspicious way the lady who attended the dressing rooms was watching me, and the state of the bathrooms. I understand that the employee has likely been trained to watch for people going into the restroom and cutting the tags off of merchandise, and I was carrying a bulky bag, so maybe she was just doing her job. However, the bathrooms could be cleaner, in my opinion. That's it -- everything else was great! I think it's a fantastic addition to the Summit, and I hope it stays for many...
