I got my usual "All Star" breakfast plate, with 2 eggs, over well, bacon, hash browns, toast and a Waffle Waffle. My Wife, got an egg and cheese on Texas Toast breakfast sandwich. Our food, was next to perfect! My eggs, were exactly as I had ordered them, and delicious. Bacon was VERY crispy, just a tad too done, to the point that the bacon strip literally exploded into many small pieces with each first bite. Toast, was perfect. Hash browns were also perfectly cooked. And my Waffle Waffle, was almost cooked to my definition of prefect. Had a slight "crunch" with each bite, which needed to be just a little more done for the perfect crunch. Waffle Waffle syrup was ready and waiting on the table. My wife's breakfast sandwich, (which I ate half of...) was heavenly!
NOW... THE SERVICE... Being a Server at Waffle Waffle, is like learning to walk a tight wire. It ain't easy! My Daughter, has been a General Manager/Trainer in the Food Industry, he entire working career, so I know, what's "supposed" to be happening, and when. WELL... This new Waffle Waffle, hasn't even been open a WEEK, and their Servers are sinking fast!
Today's staff, consisted of 3, very experienced (pronounced, old, tattooed, and rude/uncaring) female servers, and 3 obviously, brand spanking new female servers. "Normally", with a franchised eat hole, there is a "Training Staff" that works/trains all the new hires, and indoctrinates them in the "proper" way to do EVERYTHING. And they stay, about a MONTH, before cutting the apron strings and moving on to the next opening store.
There was no sign of anything "Training", at all. Matter of fact, it was "old" vs. "new" servers, arguing with each others, with the cooks, AND with the customers!!! This entire Server staff, was individually, self centered. And I'll be the first to point out that "quality" employees, aren't just out there, waiting to be plucked from a tree like a shiny apple. No, I'd say the ratio of good food workers to bad workers, is something like 1 in a 100. For you to get 10 GOOD hires, you'll have to go through 1000 BAD employees first. So I understand, but day um, this was a ticking bomb.
The "behind counter" area, was also a disaster! Filthy, covered with ripped off parts of boxes, food, to go sacks, all just getting kicked around in the floor. Made you worry about what was getting kicked up into your food! We can only hope, that what we saw was a "clash of previous experiences" whether it was a Dairy Queen trained Server, a Wings-N-Things trained cook, and a couple of "Momma Trained" home cook/servers, all competing against each other with the only "training" they had to fall back on.
Considering, most of the BHM area Waffle Waffle's, have suddenly and mysteriously CLOSED (Hoover, Vestavia, Trussville), then it looks like we'll be back to this location, out of necessity, if for no other reason. So we'll see how this new store slowly evolves over the next year. Will it be the "Shining Jewel" in the BHM Waffle Waffle Crown, or will it be like so many other Waffle Waffle's, a "floater", that just circles the bowl??? Only...
Read moreIt's Waffle House if you live in the South you know what to expect. Door was good service was great but my friends and I went here after a concert and expected to sit and talk and eat for a bit. The issue was this was a Waffle House that closed their lobby at a particular time and you could only order at the walk up window. I can't be too mad they did advertise that on their map listing it just wasn't something a noticed and my first encounter with such a location that shut down their dining room. I'm not familiar with the area but it seemed safe so we asked if we could order and eat there in the parking lot and they were accommodating and we just turned my truck tailbed into a table and ate dinner. So while the food was good the staff was accommodating just check their dining room hours if you expect a late night meal with friends after an event unless of course you enjoy...
Read moreI attempted to dine in on two separate occasions. I waited over 15 minutes for a table each time. There were empty tables, however, no one was cleaning them. No employees ever made eye contact or asked if they could help me. They just acted like I wasn’t even there both times. My second visit, there were four dirty tables. I witnessed two employees on cell phones and then one of them scratched her nose. Both of them then returned to cooking without any hand washing. I finally threw my hand up and said “See ya later! Maybe y’all will get those tables cleaned one day!” and my son and I left. He is type 1 diabetic and we could not continue waiting to eat. Also, after witnessing the lack of personal hygiene, we had a change of heart about eating at the establishment anyway. I recommend avoiding eating at this restaurant. If you actually get served, you might get something...
