This is the second time that Mrs. Coyote and I have eaten here, and it is delicious!
This restaurant is in a small town called Bishop, in California. After a long drive we were looking forward to going to "that cool Mexican place we ate at last time" and we found it! Seriously, this was something we planned on for, like, 400 miles.
Molcajetes Fusion has great food, well prepared, and filling portions. There's a section there for grilled meats and one of the selections is called "the Rancher". It looked tantalizing even though I wasn't sure if I should eat grilled rancher. What if it is someone I know? But it turns out that's just the name of the meal, you know, something a rancher would eat after a hard day of ranching.
The meat is delicious carne asada, cooked to a great medium rare. It came with two grilled onions, some rice, some potatoes (being from Idaho I am obligated to pass judgment on potatoes and these were properly delish). It also had a big slab of grilled cactus, can you believe it?
Now cactus can be tricky because, even though it is a plant, it fights back. But this one was de-stickified and quite tasty. And it wasn't some measly little cactus like from someone's Zen garden, this was the size of a boot sole.
My wife had the surf and turf salad, which sounds meek but is not. The vegetables were tasty, lettuce was richly green, and best if all the steak --the "turf" part of surf and turf-- was too big for her to finish so I felt compelled to help her finish it because I am generous that way.
So go to Bishop, California and right on the main drag through town stop at Molcajetes Fusion and have a good meal that is tasty, satisfying, and reasonably priced.
And show those...
Read moreAbsolutely awful experience. The food took a while to arrive. The chips were stale plus both of us felt nauseous after eating them. I believe the shrimp in my meal were severely undercooked: they were hard to chew on and I later noticed that the tails did not turn red like they should when cooked properly, but stayed grey instead. I got stomach cramps after trying to eat the dish I paid $27 for. It was also very spicy (as advertised, so can’t complain about that too much), which did not make the experience any better. Did not finish even 10% of it, which literally never happened to me before because I am usually too cheap to not finish the food I paid for. My boyfriend’s carne asada, which was advertised as tender, was the opposite of tender, but edible overall, unlike my bowl. When we told the waitress that we did not like the food at all, she did not offer any apologies and just brought us our check. Would highly recommend to stay away from that place, especially that there are so many other...
Read moreDefinitely would not recommend. Took my girlfriend and son there. We sat down to look at the menu chips and salsa were brought out, chips tasted stale salsa was flavorless and resembled green water. After having a couple chips my son came to the conclusion that he only wanted chicken fingers and fries and didn't really feel like eating there. My girl and I decided against ordering anything (luckily)... we explained we were just going to order take out; waited for the chicken fingers left a 5 dollar tip on a 9 dollar bill apologized for the inconvenience got to our room to discover the chicken fingers and fries were basically inedible threw them out and went down the street to Holy Smoke BBQ. Ended the night on a good note...
