I came in with a friend around 5:45 p.m. and we were seated by the bartender, who was very kind and provided us with water while letting us know that a server would be with us shortly. We looked over the menu and decided what we wanted to order, but unfortunately, no one came to our table for quite some time. One of the waitresses made eye contact with us a few times but never approached. Instead, she seated a group of student athletes who arrived after us, took their drink and food orders, and continued serving other tables. After sitting for about 30 minutes without being greeted or helped, the bartender came over and took our order. I also noticed other tables that had been seated before us still waiting to place their orders, while several tables that arrived later were already being served their food. Around 7:00, my friend went to the bar to express our frustration and requested that our meals be packed to-go along with our check. The bartender quickly apologized and brought out our food and bill. When we got home, we realized that one of the items was incorrect. We called the restaurant to explain the situation, but were told that no manager was available and to call back the next morning. We plan to do so in hopes of finding a resolution. I do want to highlight that the bartender was extremely professional, attentive, and apologetic throughout our visit — they truly deserve recognition for their excellent service. Having worked as a waitress for five years myself, I understand that restaurants can face challenges such as being understaffed, delayed food preparation, or busy rushes. However, what occurred during our visit reflected a lack of attentiveness and professionalism from the waitress. Rather than engaging with guests who had been waiting, she appeared more focused on socializing and chatting with friends, including the group of athletes. Overall, this experience was disappointing. I would strongly recommend that management provide additional training to ensure all servers understand the importance of professionalism, awareness, and prioritizing guests over personal conversations. With the right guidance, this could easily be improved.

🌟 The Hatch — Blacksburg, VA 5 STARS ALL THE WAY! Let me just say… The Hatch did NOT come to play. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was unmatched—welcoming, laid-back, and full of flavor (in every sense of the word). There was no wait, the team was on point, and the service flowed like a place that’s been doing this for years, not just on Day 2 of a soft opening! Let’s talk about the food, though… 🔥 🍗🧇 Waffle Sliders – Y’all. Golden, fluffy waffles hugging perfectly seasoned fried chicken, with syrup and dipping sauces on the side so you can make it sweet, savory, or somewhere in between. Each bite was chef’s kiss perfection. 🥪🥓 The Hatch Club – This isn’t your average club sandwich. Grilled chicken, crisp romaine, bacon, cheddar cheese, and just the right amount of seasoning stacked on toasted flatbread. Light but hearty, flavorful and fresh. Paired with crispy home fries and ketchup? A whole moment. And the highlight? The owner, Jay, was present, intentional, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest felt valued. You could see him checking in, smiling with customers, and putting his heart into the atmosphere. That’s leadership. That’s love. That’s The Hatch. 💯 Blacksburg, y’all better get ready—The Hatch is more than a restaurant. It’s an experience. Day 2 felt like a grand opening and I can’t wait to come back for more. Brunch, lunch, vibes, service—10/10 all around.

Overall, the place was okay. We went during their opening weeks, so they’re still finding their rhythm. The portion sizes were fair for the price, though it could be slightly more affordable. The food was decent, the chicken gravy was overly salty (but definitely an innovative take on gravy!), and the biscuits were a bit undercooked. The fried chicken had a nice breading-to-meat ratio but was on the dry side. We also tried the waffle sliders, and that chicken was much better cooked. The side of potatoes, however, was also dry. Service was friendly and polite, though they checked on us a few too many times. Our food arrived warm and within a reasonable wait. Overall, not a bad experience, we'd be open to trying it again once they’ve had more time to settle in.

It is with utmost reverence and profound admiration that I pen this review, extolling the virtues of The Hatch, a gastronomic temple that has left an indelible mark on my epicurean soul. This revered establishment is an ode to the art of fine dining, a symphony of flavors and service that transcends the ordinary and catapults one into a realm of sublime delight. From the moment I stepped into The Hatch's elegant embrace, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of refined sophistication, a testament to the meticulous attention to detail that permeates every facet of this extraordinary restaurant. Kurt, our waiter, was a maestro of service, guiding us through the menu with precision and passion. His dedication to excellence was integral to The Hatch's triumph.

The cuisine was a revelation – a harmonious marriage of innovation and tradition, showcasing the chef's creativity and mastery of technique. Flavors danced upon the palate, textures interplayed in delightful counterpoint, and presentation was elevated to an art form. Every bite was a journey of discovery, celebrating the senses with profound respect for ingredients.
