I got really excited when I found a locally owned wing joint in Blaine!!?! Wow. It was definitely a fun experience as I was a huge fan of the wings joints like Shorty and Wags, Harold's Chicken, Hook, etc. Well all those places old and new are deep in the hood, and to find a similar place down the street from the new Cub that looks like Kowalski's was really strange.
The place looks just like what I expected of a wings joint: clean, fun, and cafe like, but not too suburban, corporate, or trying to be something they're not. I was there on a Sat, and they were still running their lunch special: 4 whole wing basket with fries and a drink for $7.99. Score!
The wings came pretty quickly, and I was impressed that they were well seasoned. Not as good as Shorty and Wags (which doesn't exists anymore), but tasty nonetheless. They were well prepared, not dried, and they were nice and moist. The fries were the right kind of crisp, but really not seasoned. For a wing joint I expected the fries to have either cajun or seasoned salt on them. After a little while I suspected MSG, because by the third wing my enthusiasm had went from a 9 to a whimpering 4, and from a 5-star to a 3-star review. Darn it I hate when that happens. The buffalo sauce was simply Red Hot poured directly from the bottle. Not hating. Just stating. I did walk away a little hungry...
One little thing that I wanted to mention. Of the time that I was there, ALL of the clientele that came through the door were people of color: Asians (me being the 4th), African-American, and African. And yet over the speakers they were BLARING classic rock. For a wing/BBQ joint, I really had a hard time understanding this choice of ambiance. Just what were they going for? Isn't that kind of like Famous Dave's blaring Tango music??
Overall I'd come again. I will try other things like broasted chicken, and ribs, and see how they do. I won't be ordering wings again though. It just wasn't my speed. Others loved it though and you just need to judge...
Read moreI’ve visited Wing Joint on multiple occasions, at least 10 times since moving into this area. My most recent experience, the food was overcooked and OVER SALTED to the extent that it tasted like I was licking table SALT off of a spoon. This is the second time this has occurred. The 1st time I blew it off since previous times the food was fine. However, tonight when I called to complain I was told “that I should ask for light seasoning in the future” because the food is prepared the same way each time. I find that interesting when they don’t use measuring devices to add their seasoning. I can tell you from observation that it isn’t the same person preparing and cooking the food each time. I find it odd that the woman I spoke to tried to convince me that it is the same recipe when they apply the seasoning manually?? Is it not possible that the cook is more heavy handed than other employees?? Clearly, I would not continue to go there and give them my money if my food continued to taste like a HEART ATTACK waiting to happen. The lady I spoke to was nonchalant and short with me. I will never return to Wing Joint. If you’re looking for wings that are consistently good each time I would not recommend wasting your money at wing joint. You’re better off going to wing...
Read moreI've been going here off and on, probably 5 or 6 years when I first started coming to Wing Joint, the chicken wings were good, but they were a little bit on the salty side. So the last few times I have gone, the chicken has not tasted overly salty and it tastes actually really good. My experience with customer service has always been good. Maybe it's particular people that work there that make it a bad experience from other reviews that I've read. And they might need to be looked at, but I've never ran into an issue. I used to go to Hickory Hut over in St. Paul. I like this place better. Due to the fact that wings are not giant, they're a good size, but they're not huge and they taste very similar to Hickory Huts. The chicken seems to be better quality. I can warm them up the next day and I always suggest to everybody use an air fryer, they will snap back and be crispy and not dry. All it takes is three minutes in the air fryer. No reason to be going all the way to St. Paul. I live in Brooklyn Park, and Blaine is...
