Ale’s Ice Cream Shop — Restaurant in Bloomington

Horrible experience. The psychotic owner verbally assaulted my friends, and they did nothing wrong. He was wild-eyed, spittle-flying mad because my friend disposed of a tiny candy wrapper in an outdoor wastebasket without buying ice cream

I don't know why that made him so mad... unless maybe it's because my friend happens to be black?

When I attempted to intervene on my friend's behalf, the ice cream psycho demanded that I come inside his store so he could "lock the door and tech me a lesson"

I'm not honestly sure how much of the the ice cream psycho's tantrum was caused by psychosis and how much was racism but he seemed positively unhinged and the experience made us all feel VERY unsafe.

Rest assured, none of us will ever buy ice cream at this...

The folks who run Ale's are so friendly, and they offer such a unique and fun variety of ice cream flavors and other menu items. It wasn't immediately clear to me that Ale's Ice Cream Shop was a Mexican ice cream shop, but that makes it so much better. The ice cream base is really tasty, and the flavors they offer are both flavorful and special. The zarzamora ice cream is particularly great (queso fresca and blackberry), but their coffee ice cream is also really good. Other menu items like mangonada (mango sorbet, tajin, and chamoy) are a great opportunity for something different from what you can find elsewhere in Bloomington. Everyone in Bloomington has their idea of what is considered the best ice cream shop. For some it's The Chocolate Moose, for others it's Jiffy Treet, Hartzell's or Bruster's. We'll, all of those people are wrong. Ale's Ice Cream shop is heads and shoulders above the competition. They offer your standard flavors as every ice cream shop should, but then go so far above and beyond with flavors you won't find anywhere else. Most recently I had a scoop of Tequila ice cream combined with a scoop of watermelon sorbet. Both were incredible.
