Situated next to my favorite nail place, I noticed the “Opening Soon!” sign several months ago. But thanks to the crackerjack team that calls themselves the Bloomington City Council, little did I know the “soon” actually meant a longer wait than the merch line at last months Pearl Jam show (IYKYK). But alas, last week as I was getting my toes scrubbed and polished, my tummy started to rumble as the smell of the grill wafted over and lifted me up out of my chair and out the door like I was a cartoon character from the 1980’s.
Let me just say, first off that the staff here is amazing. We had several servers who did everything short of fan me with obnoxiously large leaves and feed me grapes. They are incredibly friendly and personable and there is an aura to the environment as a whole that is very welcome and inviting. There is a synergy to the staff that reverberates in positive vibes, not to menteion that the service is on point. I had a coupon issue with the fault being 100% on my end but it was swiftly taken care of by the manager without question, and that was greatly appreciated.
The food started out excellent, slowly moved up to phenomenal, then I blacked out for a bit, and after I came to our meal was topped off with a tender cut of magnificent. It was beef, with a side of beef with a 2 set encore of more beef.
I wanted to wrap myself in the lamb chops and take a nap. Even the pineapple, a surprisingly pleasant break in the meat tornado, was delicious and helped to refuel. We finished with a filet mignon that made my eyes roll to the back of my head and drool out the side of my mouth Hendrix-style. This isn’t for the faint of heart i.e. vegetarians, and if one were to walk in here they might just burst into flames. But if one were to dare there is an excellent salad bar that can keep them entertained while the “real” adults do their thing.
This kind of eating is what you train your whole life for. Everything else is just practice for this moment. This meal is the be-all-end-all for what meat eating should be. After this, you will be standing on that podium, your face beaming with pride as the crowd jumps to their feet in unanimous and thunderous applause. Because you, my friend, are...
Read moreFirst time we were here about a year ago it was awesome. Great variety, great service, great everything. I couldn't have recommended it enough & have recommended it to a few people since.
Went there tonight, a Thursday for supper with the exact same group. It was OK, but not what I would expect for the pricetag or from our previous experience. We had to ask for the same top sirloin item 5 times (2x to our waiter, the 3rd random meat slicer finally delivered after I highlighted we'd asked 4 times before over 20 minutes). We also noticed that sitting by the door we basically got offered the same 5 things over and over. The other side of the floor by the salad bar got all the variety but most of it was gone halfway across the floor, and what did make it wasn't very hot. They need to rotate the serving patterns.
The color cards were basically meaningless this time. Only the two cards in the aisle edge of the table were noticed, the rest closer to the wall were not as well. Even when all our cards were red, we were still interrupted.
We were there for just over 2 hours, but we're really done about a half hour before that.
We had a coupon that said 2 top shelf meals for x off, no mention that the entire table had to order that way. So we all went for standard instead. Very greedy and pushy way to honor this coupon - this did not win you any favors with our family and friend.
Aside from being almost cold, the food was tasty in general. The salad bar I found lacking, ok but not worth it if you did the $25 salad bar only by any stretch of the imagination. My personal favorite thing that comes around with the meat is the pineapple dish, it's like a pineapple flavored apple pie. The sirloins & lamb were pretty good. I think there's maybe a daily special or something, today there was a whole beef cut served sizzling on a giant salt slab - that was pretty fantastic.
We had an ok time anyways, but the service really needs to come back around. We're generally a pretty easy group to please & try to focus on the positive but I feel like I was like 3/25 for what I was looking or asking for tonight.
It's a fun thing to have in Bloomington, hopefully they can figure...

It’s all about MEAT! A very fast presentation by server of a wine menu and food menu. The gist of the story is a huge salad bar at with over 50 selections, pasta and soup. You can have just that for $25.95. It comes free with the regular meat meal. The waiter presented the theme. You get hot cheese filled pastry roll, water and can order wine you pay for. They like to sell you a bottle.
The meal is $55 I think. Not sure as I did not pay. But we had the meal each.
They bring each guest a small square card to place by your setting that alerts servers you are ready to eat if GREEN side up. Red side up means no meat right now.
They come around with hot skewers of lamb chops, sausage, steak, chicken legs and grilled pineapple and other meats I have no idea. They are all listed on the menu. You can order a separate steak or fish dinner but must alert waiter.
The waiter said we could not just order Salad bar on Mother’s Day but folded when I persisted. The hostess said no problem. Need to be consistent in what they offer and when.
So green side up they arrive to offload steak and give you small tongs to pull meat off skewer. Then we waited to see what else we get. A tiny plate of mash potatoes runny and said we could have more by asking. At $55 a person very cheap on potatoes. No meat dipping sauces, just broiled meat and mash potatoes. No cooked veggies. Not sure how you feed a child here. Meat and bread and potatoes I guess.
I never felt relaxed; never knew who would pop up with what kind of meat. It’s all you can eat. Steak was great, chicken leg ok, shrimp not much flavor, lamp chop salty, pineapple still had some husk on it, rolls delicious. Staff are constantly running past you with plates of sides, skewers of meat or wait staff presenting.
