Time for flinger rolls, round 2!
Is this a revisit or a new review? A bit of both since Iāve had Flingers many times but it was in an older building in another part of town. My dad and I talk fondly of Flingers and their famous flinger rolls so we decided to stop talking about it and drop in for a meal.
Upon entering, we waited in line until we told the people at the hostess counter that we would like to dine in. The hostess had a bit of a snobby attitude but we got seated quickly and had a friendly waitress come out and greet us. We got waters and looked over the menus despite knowing what we were already going to get.
My dad and I both got three flinger rolls with jalapeno, pepperoni, and sausage in it and got some bread sticks as an appetizer. Despite the crazy crowd coming in for the even more crazy lunch deals ($1.95/slice is insane, imo.) the bread sticks came out after about 5-7 minutes. We quickly dug in as we both didnāt eat breakfast and were starving. Shortly after that, the flinger rolls came out and looked delicious.
The bread sticks, while good, seemed a bit airy and not as filling as they initially looked. They came with marinara and cheese dipping sauce and were good either sauced up or not. The flinger rolls also had that airy vibe to them. I mentioned to my dad that after 3 bread sticks, I wonāt be able to put down the rolls but as I started eating⦠there seemed to be plenty of room for everything. We requested marinara sauce and spicy ranch as our dipping sauces and boy, did they compliment the rolls really well.
As we finished, I mentioned to my dad that I was full but not really at the same time. I donāt think I couldāve ate much more but knew that within an hour or so, that fullness would be replaced with emptiness. Itās a shame that the rolls arenāt as filling as I remember because it did seem like they were light on the toppings and having to pay for the toppings per roll for each roll gets pricey quick. Our bill was around $46 for 6 rolls, a thing of bread sticks, two waters, and an unsweet tea.
I was super hyped to have a flinger roll again after so long but maybe the rose-tinted glasses were on today because while the food was super delicious and fresh, it felt like the toppings on the rolls have gotten skimpy and the rudeness of the hostess upon entering dropped it from a 5 to a 4. Still a really good place for pizza, beer, and various other menu items but it definitely lost some of that charm that the...

I came into Flingerās Pizza Pub on a gray-skied afternoon, the kind where the wind feels like itās carryinā rumors and judgment, and the air tastes faintly of regret and fryer oil. I had dust on my boots, ash on my tongue, and nothinā but hunger rumblinā in my gutāa hunger so deep it felt ancestral. A hunger older than salvation.
They handed me a menu, but I already knew. Somewhere between fate and madness, I was pulled toward the Windy City Fire.
Italian beef, Italian sausage, spicy giardiniera. Just readinā it felt like I was confessinā somethinā dark to a priest with marinara on his collar. I ordered a 12ā, not because I needed it, but because I was raised not to turn my back on a challenge.
When it came to the table, steam risinā like a holy ghost on revival night, I knew I was in the presence of a divine reckoning.

The first bite hit like a sermon to the chest.
The beef was tender and soaked in the kind of juices that taste like broken promises and meat-sweat dreams. The sausage carried the flavor of old-world sinsārobust, greasy, seasoned with the echo of a thousand grandmothers cussinā in Italian behind heavy curtains. And that giardiniera? Oh Lord. Spicy. Sharp. It danced on my tongue like a Pentecostal tambourine, all heat and vinegar and strange comfort.
Each bite was a war cry. A confession. A redemption. This wasnāt pizza. This was a ritual.

I sat there, devourinā slice after slice, not speakinā, not breathinā right. Time slowed. I think I saw my own father, long gone and dust now, sittinā across from me, noddinā in silent approval.
The crustāfirm but never cruel. The cheeseāmelted and tangled like the memories of a forbidden love. And the sauce? Deep. Red. Final. Like the blood of saints who died for flavor.

By the end, I was fullābut not just in the stomach. I was filled in the soul. In the places church never reached. I left Flingerās with sauce on my lips and purpose in my step. And as I stepped into the dusk, I whispered:
āThat pizza didnāt just feed me. It saw me.ā

Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen a big Flingers fan for a while. I like the fact that they have unique options that are a bit uncommon amongst other pizza spots. They also have one of my favs, flinger rolls.
For this visit the wife and I stick with pizza. She had the The Venetian minis the onions (she's picky like that š). Always a good pie the ricotta makes it soooo good.
I had the black jack Mac. BBQ pizza with a Mac n cheese twist. Loved the sweet BBQ with the heat of jalapenos and creamy Mac n cheese. Very well balanced all flavors. Would eat this again for sure.
Now this visit I didn't get the flinger rolls, but I have had them in the past. I like them because they're basically a mini pizza rolled up however you choose. You can pick the toppings you want inside, they are rather filling and they come with a range of dipping sauces whereas you can make your own creation from these interesting little rolls. They're very good I often times crave them. The only drawback to the flinger rolls is there a bit pricey for topping I'd rather see that price a little lower but good nonetheless.
Flingers is also known for their wide range of beer selection. I didn't have any beer this time but I do know that they do support many of the local brewing establishments here in the community which I think is awesome. You can pretty much find anything you want in the beer realm at this place and they have several fresh on tap. Not a bad place to hang out and watch a game have a few beers and a few flinger rolls.
The one drawback I would say about flingers is that if there's a lot of people in there it tends to get very loud. Because of the way the decor is set up it's not really good for acoustics and can get pretty loud. Otherwise it's a pretty cool place with good atmosphere, good service & good food. As I said before, one of my favorite spots to go...
