Over the years, Long John Silver's has survived a multitude of fast food restaurants, but it's definitely showing its' age. Here in Bloomington, more than any others I've been to. The quality of this restaurant has been wanting over time... From the food itself, which is only slightly above frozen you can buy and cook yourself, not that it's bad, mind you. You do get a lot for the price. But most noticably, the service of the employees. Most seem to be very unenthusiastic, almost as if your business there is a hindrance to whatever they might be doing at that time, whether that be joking with another employee, listening to music, or on their phones texting. Also, many seem unfamiliar with their own menu and products, not knowing how to answer even simple questions. The lack of many aspects of this restaurant, as compared to what their own website for the restaurant chain shows for food sold there is disparaging. When asked about an item on the website and why they didn't have it on the menu, the manager replied with, "Well we're a bit different than that..." This says to me that they have not a clue over some aspects of their own company. If you're looking for a quick fish and chips fix, this isn't a bad alternative. But if you're looking for food with a bit of substance (almost everything tastes the same, be it fish or chicken), you might want to look elsewhere for your craving.
Edit: As of June 16th, 2021 The quality of both attentiveness and service has gone done far since the "global pandemic" hit us all. It seems that this crisis has become a crutch to become less than accommodating with delivering accurate and excellent service. Now, I'm not saying it's JUST this restaurant, others are showing the same issues. However, this one has had several issues that made me feel less than pleased with them. Example A: Just yesterday, as I'm posting this on June 17th, I went to Long John Silvers to get dinner. We had ordered online, and thought maybe, this might be a bit easier to handle for them. I was sadly mistaken. Once I got to the restaurant, and figuring out it was drive-thru only (makes sense for this part), I waited there at the drive-thru window for about 10 minutes, without so much as a glance toward me, though people had walked back and forth numerous times. There were no other vehicles around at the moment. I finally get some service, which the attendant did apologize for... kudos to her... and was asked the name on the order. I didn't know, as my roommate placed the order. I told the employee I had an order number, to which I got "I have several order numbers, can't you give me a name?" Ok... whatevs. The order was soon figured out, but missing the drink with one of the meals. I told the employee, she had to look over the receipt, and then says, "Oh, yeah, that does have a drink. We just missed getting it." Ouch... Example B: I get home, and find that the tartar sauces we had specifically asked for, and were on the receipt, were lacking. Not only was the amount that we asked for way lower, one of the sauces was completely missing. I checked my meal, which was supposed to be two pieces of chicken, and one fish, since I really like the chicken. Instead, I ended up with 2 pieces of fish, and one "small" piece of chicken, along with some soggy fries, that were literally stuck together in clumps. This told me that they were taken out of the fryer, and then left sitting together to cool off, making them stick like that.
Now, you would think, ordering online, and having a printed view of detailed orders, with clear notes or instructions would be easier to handle. But I guess not, obviously. In a time when customer service should be at a business' top priority, as they're counting on people to keep things running during this time. But instead, I'm finding more and more than employees just seem to not care as much anymore. And that's sad, when it starts showing in the quality of your service and food offered. I apologize for this long update, but it had...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLong John Silver's, an esteemed chain known for its seafood offerings, presented me with a rather average dining experience on my recent visit.
The food was adequate, neither extraordinary nor disappointing. The menu boasted the classic items one would expect from Long John Silver's - fish, chicken, and shrimp, all deep-fried to a golden crisp. The dishes were flavorful enough, but lacked that memorable touch that would make me crave more. As someone who appreciates a good seafood meal, I was left wanting for that extra 'oomph' which was sadly missing.
The establishment seemed to be running with a skeleton crew during my visit, which led to a few delays. However, I must commend the staff for doing their best under the circumstances. They managed to maintain a professional demeanor, ensuring that the customers were attended to, albeit with a bit of a wait.
Cleanliness, always an important aspect of any dining experience, was mostly attended to in the main dining area. Most of the tables were clean and ready for the next customer. However, the restroom left a bit to be desired, with an unflushed toilet serving as a stark contrast to the otherwise decent upkeep. A little more attention to the hygiene of these facilities would definitely go a long way in improving the overall guest experience.
The ambiance was standard - nothing too exciting, but comfortable enough for a quick bite. However, it's worth noting that the famed bell of satisfaction remained silent during my visit. This time, Long John's couldn't quite hit that high note of customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, my visit to Long John Silver's was satisfactory but far from exceptional. The food was decent but not outstanding, the staff did well given the circumstances, but there is room for improvement in maintaining the cleanliness of the restroom facilities. A few adjustments here and there could definitely elevate the dining experience to match the high seas adventure that Long John...

They listen to any concerns I seldom have that could potentially improve a customers visit, for example the type of music and volume, as well as tone of voice used by staff. I can be totally open and honest with the managers and the general manager and they listen in order to improve, instead of being offended like a lot of places. I always enjoy the scenery in the building too it brings back pleasant memories as well as sparks my curiosity in the history of Long John Silvers. I've been in several Long John Silvers in various states and I have to say I really do enjoy this one the most. I'm always treated with respect here . They treat customers how customers should be treated versus places that are just another business in it for the money. Once in awhile I go just for something to do to get out of the house. The fish is unbeatable at Long John Silvers. I really like the new tea bag š it holds half a gallon and is so very convenient. I do have some pictures I'm just not sure how to share them yet. I highly recommend checking it out and enjoying great fish at an affordable price in a really...
