Taqueria Porton — Restaurant in Bloomington

The food is great at this restaurant. But the service the past couple of weeks was terrible. When my boyfriend and I went to get tacos the waitress took our order and drinks (you need to order a big drink because there was no one to bring you refills) the waitress went to all tables around us to check on them and never once came to see if we needed anything else. We had to get up and get our own forks and napkins. We paid and left a small tip since the food was good. My family of 11 went to celebrate my sister's birthday yesterday evening. The waitress argued trying to fit 11 people and a toddler within two tables. They said they needed the additional tables for the church that gets off at 5. They told my family they had to eat fast and wouldn't bring them drinks until they ordered food and refused to give my brother in law a pitcher of beer since they were rushing (he got a beer bottle). Now if they close down for a church to eat dinner why couldn't they say "hey can you do a to go order or come back after 6"?.. but no, they were super rude. I know the owner hasn't been in and I pray she is well, but damn these waitresses are not good at customer service. I hope they figure it out because they have the best tacos in Bloomington. I’m an uber driver, used to come here, will never again after picking up the chick who works the front most often. Her name is Lizeth. I was kind, each time she was rude. She took like 6 minutes to put on a seatbelt and ignored my request the first time. Then proceeded to scratch my seats in an attempt to damage them. I’ve contacted uber to charge her. She was very rude, and disrespectful. My car is. 2024. I will #1 never go here again. #2 be telling my friends who go here, about my experience and to spend their money elsewhere. They will. #3 I’d like to contact the General Manager about this experience. You may have not been at work, but outside of work you should also treat people the way you wish to be treated. Don’t do this to others. Like ever.

In regard to the food? Appetizers and dip / chips extremely overpriced. New prices have been added despite menu not updated. The food is pretty good but not special by any means. Tony’s tacos is certainly better. However the hey have pretty good Flautas and rice. I would eat there if I was hungry. Though after this experience I certainly will not be. My first visit to Taqueria El Porton, my first time ordering a couple of their of their tasty creations to go. We were not disappointed. We had chicken and beef tacos and a beef tongue burrito. Very good! Now I'm measuring them to the many great Mexican restaurants I've frequented in Chicago. Taqueria El Porton was definitely on par! The chicken and beef tacos were very tasty, and I thought the huge burrito (beef tongue) was great! The pricing is reasonable.... not cheap, but not over priced. Though I got carry out I did sit in Taqueria El Porton for about 10 minutes waiting. The interior was small but a lot of seating. It did remind me of a lotta Mexican spots in Chicago. Casual and nice. I read a buncha very good reviews online about the place. That was what prompted me to check it out. OK... I read about their red sauce, but I really have to say that their green sauce was killer, Red was medium hot and good, but the green sauce was really excellent in it's flavor!
