I am leaving a 1 star rating after what happened at the taste of Scandinavia in Bloomington and their corporate office in little Canada starting on Dec. 18th and ending on Dec 19th of 2021. For reference I have ordered this cake from them for years almost every year for like 10yrs and I am a blind women. It’s the Birch Noel Jule log with mushrooms and looking like a birch log its a fantastic cake. However this year as I have in the past I wrote in the special instructions section of the order online that I would (as I have every year) prefer not to have the red holly and to have extra of the mushrooms. I was using my screen reader told them to email or call me with questions. We arrived on the 18th at the Bloomington MN store to pick up our cake they bring it out and there are one no mushrooms on it and two there is red holly on it which I am allergic to (red frosting) I could live without the mushrooms fine but basically they said they could scoop off the holly of course that won’t work and told that they called me and left me a message (they had not nor had they sent me an email which I had left them when I ordered the cake because I’m blin I make mistakes). The girl said we could call the baking manager Tina my mom said no Tina can call us hence the following day (for clarification we did ask and get our fifty dollars back) Tina calls the next morning and basically blames me and mom for the cake not being right. She would not stop talking to the point where I had to had the phone to my mom because she wasn’t listening to anything she kept talking over both me and my mom. My mom finally told her to stop blaming us and stop talking over her and asked what they were going to do to make it right my mom had to ask multiple times to tell her that she understands she would like to blame us for the problem but again what are they going to do to make it right I then asked my mom to ask her if we could still get a cake on the 19th the answer was an annoyed maybe. I was in tears (this was supposed to be my birthday cake my birthday is on the 22nd) My mom had to continue to interrupt the Tina person to get her to understand that at that point we no longer wanted the cake and that we would no longer be ordering from them in the future. I am very very disappointed in their service. I was argued with that they had called and left a message. They had not. Just know that if you order from the new owners they don’t care about...

One of the hardest things about ordering here is that there are so many delicious options! I always have a hard time deciding. It's one of my top places to go to for brunch. At my latest visit, I had the swedish wontons (they were SO GOOD--they should have this at the State Fair), the salmon scramble (great portion size and very tasty, and the dill sauce and salsa that came with it was a yummy combo), and I had their wild berry smoothie that they top with whip cream (also recommend)

I also enjoy their Norwegian lefsa breakfast and their sweet scandinavian lefse breakfast.

Oh, do try their hot chocolate.👌

Their cakes (made to order) are also wonderful and the price is reasonable with the quality and size of the cake you get. Recently I ordered their Hummingbird Torte. I tend to prefer "lighter" cakes and desserts rather than rich-tasting ones say like brownies or very chocolatey things...and this hits the spot. I was expecting the fruity flavors to be more apparent, but it's quite good and the cake is moist with a good ratio of cake to icing.

In store, you can buy various jams, like lingonberry, gooseberry, cloudberry (my fave), etc. They also have displays filled with various pastries and other sweets.

I've had only good experiences with the people who work there--kind, helpful,...

Definitely not going back. Me and my gf waited 20 mins for a table, which isn’t the problem. When we ordered our food, the waitress seemed very impatient. While in the process of choosing my dish, the server hurried and said I’ll grab your drink instead of taking my food order. The server who gave us our drinks acted as if she didn’t hear our complete order or inquiries. When we were finally able to put in our whole order, which was only 2 plates of food…we waited over 40 mins and there were people who walked in way after us that received their meals before us. Looking around the restaurant, we were literally the only ppl who had not been served. Just about everyone, even those who were seated after us were almost done eating. I wonder how long we would’ve waited had we not got...
