I wanted to love this place so badly. The atmosphere was beautiful, the server who was brand new was a delight. But we had MULTIPLE reasons why we were disappointed. And for the record, I NEVER leave bad reviews. I usually always will give another chance (I may still, but it will be a while for sure).
We got there at around 6:15 and were greeted by the host who was very pleasant. The restaurant was beautiful and I was so excited to experience a new (to me) cuisine. We were seated and met almost immediately by the sweetest server. It was her first day and we totally understood she was unsure about a few things. We ordered our drinks and food almost immediately. I was so excited about the menu, everything looked amazing and the plates being served around us looked wonderful.
When we were sat however no one told us that the kitchen was backed up and there was a 1 hour delay on food. No updates were given to us either. It was FREEZING COLD in there. We were literally shivering while waiting. At about an hour and a half I asked my server how much longer for our food, that is when she told us of the delay. In the meantime, a table got up and left because it was taking so long. I witnessed MULTIPLE food items sent back to the kitchen because that was not what the people ordered. At one point I told the server we wanted to leave and she told us she would ask to have our bill comped (I did not expect that, she brought it up). I asked again how long and was told another 20 minutes. What REALLY made me mad was a table that was sat WELL after us got their food first. I admit, I got upset and stood up to leave, but the gentleman that served the food (quite rudely) asked me to sit and give them just a few more minutes. He would look into it and come right back. About 15 min later, here they come with our food.
I ordered the pineapple rice bowl, my mom got chicken and waffles and my Boyfriend got shrimp and grits. When they delivered my meal there was NO pineapple. I questioned it and was told they were “all out of the bowls, but if I wanted some pineapple they could bring it). If you are out of an item, I would think it’s best to let the customer know first. I will say though, the rice dish was amazing, but I bet it would have been better in the pineapple. Other tables were also brought meals with missing items. My mom’s food was delicious. My Boyfriend had to wait another 5 minutes for his and when it showed up it looked like it had either sat under the heat lamp too long, or had been microwaved. The grits were hard and pasty and the shrimp was tough and chewy. He could not eat it and sent it back. The server asked if we wanted it removed from the bill. Obviously we did, he could not eat it. Another thing we were told was because of the fish fry event that was outside, that was why everything was delayed. Maybe focus on one thing at a time until you get it right.
I totally understand that it’s a new place. I was in food service and I hate when people complain, but this was not a good first impression. I would like to give it another chance, but I will wait until I am sure they can handle it before I try. I do wish Ma Daisy's well and I hope they get it together because it’s a really great concept and the atmosphere is awesome. (Something NEEDS to be done about the parking lot though. Way too...
Read moreMy two friends and I decided to try Ma Daisy's Porch for lunch at 12noon because we had seen such good reviews about the place online and heard such good things. Overall experience left much to be desired. Upon initially coming to the outside hostess stand we were greeted by a bubbly young hostess who made us feel welcome. The indoor decor was wonderful and wall mural beautiful! We were sat inside and upstairs. Our waitress was new and told us so, but that being said she had much too large of a section for someone so new and was very inattentive. We were never offered refills on our waters or sweet tea and barely saw her. When i did receive my alcoholic beverage (Juneteenth smash) from the bar it was delicious. Our appetizers came out at the same time as our food. We ordered the fried chicken plate; fried whiting and shrimp; fried catfish and shrimp. We asked about substituting out our coleslaw and fries and told we could not do that so I ordered a side of "seasonal fruit" in addition to my meal. My catfish and shrimp were hot and delicious and the fried chicken plate came out well. My friend's whiting was cold as were the crik fries we ordered. The fried okra had good flavor but was not crispy and we never even received the coleslaw with our meals. We were later told they were out of coleslaw. Never were we offered a substitution for what was unavailable. When the table next to us questioned our same server about their food they were told there wasn't even a manager available to speak with at that time! I do not know if our server did not know who the manager was, but i think it a poor business practice to not have a senior member available to handle issues. I have attached photos of the food we received inside the restaurant. Also be aware the side of "seasonal fruit" that you see in the photo was just pineapple and that was $11. Overpriced and food mediocre inside.
When we left out of the restaurant one of my friends got "to go" food from the outside window/counter. The young man working the front of that area had amazing customer service. That outside area had better side options like fried and red rice and potato salad and yams and additional lunch options that were not offered inside! Had we looked at that menu first we would have never eaten inside so save yourself the trip indoors.
The bakery behind Ma Daisy's Porch/on the property had a lovely menu and I enjoyed the strawberry refresher...

We decided to kidnap my parents for a little brunch in Bluffton to kick off my Mom's Birthday Week. After my Dad got over the shock of being taken against his will (IYKYK), he got lost in biscuits 🫓 that melt in your mouth and shrimp 🍤 & grits that didn't make it into a to-go container! Mrs. Kizzie Spearman ordered the same thing, but she quickly placed an additional order for that crispy fried chicken 🍗 that kept passing our table! Anyzia Spearman-Lott had the flavorful grilled pork chops. I couldn't resist the Biddy 🍗 & Sweet Tata Batta 🧇 (chicken wings & sweet potato waffle)!!! 😋 Y'all know that I'm always honest about food... This menu will certainly be seeing my big eyes and appetite again real soon!!! Everything we tried was delightful!!!
After we finished our meal, we headed over to Backus Bakery (located just behind the restaurant) after snapping pics with the owner. My dad ordered the banana 🍌 pudding to-go. They also have beignets worth bragging about, fresh donuts, and other delightful bites to satisfy your sweet tooth! Again, I saw no sad faces exiting the bakery! #AllSmiles
