Dinner was an exercise in how to make sure customers never return. Everyone drops the ball from time to time; what counts is how it's rectified - and they don't "get it". After being directed to our table, a surly waiter arrived to ask, "Did the hostess seat you?". When we responded affirmatively, he marched away without a word. After a long delay, another waitress arrived who was equally inhospitable. I asked for my veal chop to be served with their sauce on the side, but it was delivered by a busboy drowned in it. Minutes later the waitress, arrived to asked perfunctorily if "everything was all right". When I pointed out the sauce, she replied, "Yeah, I heard about that." She then announced in an annoyed tone that a replacement was going to take a long time, so I declined - and wasn't offered an alternative. We were then treated to the spectacle of the busboy, waitress and manager huddling together a few feet away, and occasionally shooting sour glances in our direction. No one ever approached our table again, so I had to go and ask for the check: $104+ for a single entree and one bottle and two glasses of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (available at your grocery store for $15). No apology, no service, and no effort to...
Read moreWe were celebrating my birthday and so we decided to try May River Grill despite the prices. We had a 5:00 reservation and when we arrived, they sat us at a tiny two-top table right in the main pathway, even though 90% of the tables were available. We asked for another table and they obliged. We had Sangria - very good! The waitress was sweet and knowledgeable but needs some training on basic table maintenance. She was quick to clear the Sangria glasses even when we weren't finished, but then didn't clear used plates. We had to use our egg roll plates for bread plates. The egg roll was different, but good. It was $11.50. I ordered a chopped salad. It was 9.50 for a side salad, so I was really looking forward to it. The presentation was nice but sadly it was small, tasteless and really salty. My husband ordered the duck, which was crispy and moist but the sauce was more like a jelly and was overpowering. I had the stuffed shrimp, which was good. I loved the mashed potatoes and veggies were good, too. At the prices being charged, we should have top notch service, comfortable table, warm tasty bread and a salad that doesn't...
Read moreQuaint small spot. Our waiter (feel bad I don’t remember his name, slim young man with dark hair) was very friendly and attentive. The crab and shrimp egg rolls as the app stole the show, they were amazing, perfect crunch and flavor with nice but not overwhelming heat to the chili sauce. For entrees I had the veal with mushrooms and my friend had the fish special with tomato basil sauce at the waiter’s recommendation. The portions were large, and in both cases the sauces were outstanding but had to save somewhat dry meats. Not sure how you get chewy veal especially when pounded flat like that. Both meats were overcooked but saved by the sauces. The mashed potatoes had nice flavor and perfect consistency. The vegetable blend was very bland though, needed some seasoning or a sauce as well. The outstanding service, sauces, drinks, and appetizer tipped me from a 3 to a 4 in spite of the very bland veggie side and overcooked proteins. Overall a decent meal, I’ll go again and maybe try a vegetarian option…with a sauce, the eggplant...
