From the outside Suishaya almost looks like a larger chain akin to panda express or Tokyo grill. once you enter it is immediately a slightly more familiar sushi den feel. There is dark lighting and a bandana wearing man face down cutting diligently into some exotic fish hidden behind the counter.
Don't get me wrong, It's a nice enviorment - white table cloths, clean, and smell free but slightly foreign feeling. You will receive a greeting by any one of many young women on the staff who all seemed present and knowledgeable of the menu.
One of the highlights here is a bottle of any of the several Japanese beer brands runs an easy $5. Unfortunately, this is where my best compliment begins and ends.
The menu is quite large with everything we have tried being generally ok or better tasting, but the prices were equally high and some times inconsistently paired with items. 4 shrimp fried up as tempura will set you back around $10. That price is around 2-4 dollars less than any of the many menu items will run you.
Regarding the menu - the sushi was fresh and tasty but we really quite enjoy their Chinese-American inspired dishes. Most of the items will stand up as good to excellent takes on common dishes. It comes out fast and has decent to large portion sizes. Just be aware that it might be a little hard to grapple with a $17 plate of general tso chicken.
If you only want sushi at a place with sushi in the name, be prepared for a mixed bag. On one had I had some of the best yellowtail maki I have had outside of Hiroshima, but most of the rolls avoid fresh fish and focus on platings and colors made from cooked ingredients. When you do get fish on a roll, it tends to be thinly sliced and overpowered by a combination of sauces and cheese. Everything we tasted has a sweet edge to it that was less tokyo and more Lexington - Red Bank feeling.
To sum up - Suishaya looks like fast food on the outside and makes some good and even excellent fast food staples on the inside but in an environment akin to a dark Tokyo sushi house, that doesn't exactly make real sushi, and completes this with mid level fine dining prices. Most people...

I should have known from the moment my plate arrived that I had made a grave mistake. The three rolls sat there, wrapped in an unappetizing, flesh-colored soy bean paper that looked like it had been left out in the sun for days. Each bite was an assault on my taste buds—stale rice, rubbery fish, and an overwhelming slathering of the so-called “chef’s special sauce,” which had the consistency of regret and the taste of something that should never be consumed by humans. This is appalling for a place with rolls that cost almost $20 each. I wish I could leave negative stars and get my money and time back.
Hours later, the true horror set in. Stomach cramps, nausea, and a feverish regret for ever stepping foot in this establishment. If you’re looking for a sushi experience that ends with you praying for mercy over a toilet bowl, then by all means, order these rolls. Otherwise, save yourself—there are gas station sushi options with better integrity than whatever this...
Read moreWent to Suishaya, told the host that I’d be sitting at the bar. The host said it was ok, I sat there for 15 minutes without a menu, being acknowledged or even offered a drink. After sitting there for 15 minutes, I was finally bought a menu, ordered my food. Saw when my food was brought to the bar area, it then sat there for 10 minutes before it was brought to me. Mind you, there was a total of maybe 10 customers at the restaurant who have been served already, so the restaurant wasn’t busy. I took that into consideration about them being less than attentive. When it was time to pay, I told Michelle, the so called manager, about my experience. She was very argumentative, didn’t take any accountability for the lack of attentiveness to customers. Also, as I’m about to leave she serves another customer (of another race, I may add) with a quickness. Literally once the customer came to sit, before my complaint, she was there offering a drink with a menu in hand. Very...
