Recently my wife celebrated a birthday. To make it a special occasion, I arranged to surprise her with dinner at Le Sorelle, in Boca. I made the reservation online and when prompted for a “special request,” I asked that some acknowledgement be made – some floral decor, a slice of cake with a birthday candle, something. To make sure everyone was “copacetic” with the plan, I made a special trip over to the restaurant a few days prior, and spoke with the young lady who is the manager(?). “Oh everything will be taken care of,” she assured me. Great, I thought.
Comes the dinner, we had our meal – a bronzino she enjoyed thoroughly, but my veal chop was tough, chewy and a bit too fatty and veiny (both meals of which were extraordinarily price-y). But the more significant disappointment came when the meal was finished. The bill was presented and nothing had been additionally brought to the table in the way of dessert, décor (maybe a parting flower?) or even well wishes regarding my wife’s birthday. After I had her wait at the car, I went back in and addressed our waiter who said he knew nothing about her birthday. I reminded him I filled out the online reservation with instructions, and followed up with an in-person meeting with the manager at the restaurant. He knew nothing about it, he said, because no notes or information had been passed along to him. The manager, conveniently, was not at the restaurant that evening.
My question, of course, is with all the technology and state of the art internal restaurant management communications available, why wasn’t this simple directive available to our waiter…whoever that would have been?! Had he known, he said, he would have offered us a free dessert. Well, then, when I told him what happened, why didn’t he right then and there offer us something to at least take home?! He then said he would pass this situation on to management (the young lady? The owners?) and someone would get back to me.
It’s now been well over a week, and I’ve heard nothing. Oh, and one other observation: the background music played in the restaurant was of lousy, contemporary rock…from a radio station, with commercials, no less.
Le Sorelle – where “class”...
Read moreI wish I could give a negative star rating for how disastrous this birthday celebration was. We made a reservation over a month in advance, but when we arrived, we were told to sit anywhere. As soon as we picked a table, Eduardo, who I believe was the manager, rudely told us we couldn’t sit there because they were expecting 90 guests that night. He insisted we sit near the singer, but we declined due to the noise. His response? "What are you going to do, leave?" Well, yes, actually, we were about to.
Eduardo then offered us a table in a dark, empty back room, where we reluctantly sat. Almost immediately, he came over and bizarrely began interrogating two members of our party about their relationship status, asking why they weren’t married. It was uncomfortable and completely inappropriate.
When we tried to order appetizers first, Eduardo insisted we order everything at once, which felt rushed and unreasonable. We also asked for fresh, warm bread after receiving cold, burnt bread, but he flat-out refused. Only after several requests did he finally bring some out.
As for the food? A total disappointment. The cheese and meat tray was mostly fillers with barely any cheese. The burrata special was the only decent item, but it’s hard to mess that up. The clams were drowning in butter, the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery, the gnocchi was mediocre, and the chicken parmesan was cold and flavorless. We even tried ordering a pizza to salvage the meal but were told we couldn't place orders with anyone other than Eduardo, whose attitude remained atrocious all night.
We could have dealt with the subpar food, but Eduardo’s rudeness was unacceptable. A $400 dinner, not including drinks (we brought our own wine and paid a $100 corkage fee), and this is what we got? I would never dine here again or recommend this place to anyone. Thanks, Eduardo, for ruining what should have been a...
Read moreMy wife and I went on Saturday 7/20 at 7pm and we were greeted very warmly by the owner. For a Saturday night the restaurant was only about 1/3 full which I attribute to being summer in south Florida. We were seated then greeted by our server who, it turns out, was the daughter of the owner. She was very nice and did a great job throughout our meal. We began with the fried calamari appetizer. The top of the dish was covered by the tentacle pieces which neither of us care for. Once we removed that we still had a very generous portion of calamari, and it was delicious. It was obviously fresh and not frozen as the rings were large and very lightly breaded. With each bite you could taste the calamari with a hint of the oil it was cooked in. It came with a small cup of sauce. Not the usual tomato sauce but it was very good. I should have asked what was in it. Next, we shared a Ceasar salad. It was good but probably the most bland item we had. The dressing was ok, not great, and there may have been slightly too much. The croutons were average and seemed packaged. We would probably not order this again. For dinner, we shared the pasta with Bolognese sauce. I like to try this at restaurants we've never been to as every place makes it different. We were sharing so the kitchen divided the dish into 2 separate bowls. The portion was not large (even combined) but this dish is very filling and my wife didn't finish her portion (I did the next day!). The pasta was homemade and very good. It was a bit thicker and cooked al dente. The sauce was excellent. It was very rich and had a very nice beef flavor. Definitely worth ordering again. For dessert we shared a Tiramisu and each had a cappuchino. Both were good. Overall, we had a very pleasant dining experience and look forward...
