After reading many positive reviews, I decided to work with Sklar Furnishings in Boca Raton to furnish my new home in Delray Beach.
This turned out to be a BIG mistake. After Sklar delivered an il loft Mercury Sofa it became obvious that the fit, finish and quality of the Sofa was inferior to the floor model in the showroom. I went back to confirm that indeed the Mercury sofa on the showroom floor was superior to the one that was delivered. My salesperson Marina was dismissive of my concerns and unwilling to inspect my sofa. Only after I put the cushions in the car and drove them over to the showroom did Marina begrudgingly agree to contact the manufacturer, il loft, regarding the matter. After not hearing form Marina for a few weeks, I emailed her. Marina responded, "the production of the mercury is always the same". "This is the answer I received from the manufacturer" effectively a dismissal of my concern without even an offer to inspect the sofa.
I was subsequently provided a copy of Marina's email exchange with il loft. This is what Marina wrote:
"Hello, My client received this ML32 mercury sectional and they are claiming that their cushions are' not as stuffed as the one I have on the floor. Please let us know if anything was changed in production? Are you using different stuffing for the cushions? I am sorry in advance for these questions, I am just trying to appease this client."
The full email exchange is included as a picture to this review.
Needless to say I was horrified by this email. It is clear to me that Sklar had no sincere interest in investigating the matter.
After much back and forth including a visit from Frank, the store manager, Sklar "graciously" switched our under stuffed, low density skinny inserts for the 3+ year old ones from the floor model.
The result, I paid $10+K, for a sofa with old worn cushions that looks like it was purchased from Goodwill. Very disappointing, far from the sofa I expected. To add insult to injury, several interior designers that have been to my home commented on the poor fit and finish of the sofa. When I told them that I recently purchased it from Sklar, they were shocked.
In my opinion, If you are looking for a retailer that sells quality goods, takes their customers concerns seriously and works with manufacturers to resolve issues, NEVER...
Read moreTerrible!!! The salesperson GB sold us a floor model sofa sleeper with the idea if we were unhappy with it we could return it, no problem. Well they delivered it this past Wednesday and let me say when they opened the back of the truck to unload it my wife noticed it wasn't wrapped or protected in any way. It's a very light color sofa, they couldn't at least put a dirty moving pad around it to pretend to care that they take pride in their inventory. We were the first delivery that day so when my wife noticed this she tried to call the show room to talk to a manager to get some sort of a resolution to the situation. Manager was not in so the delivery people waited while they try to clean the dirt and filth off of the couch. My wife was finally able to get a hold of the manager and all he could do for her was tell her that salesperson was the only one that can take care of her. Why is there even a manager ? We only want them to pick up the sofa and give us our money back because now since it's been delivered the sofa sleeper does not even close correctly. Not a very well-built product I must say. Now they are saying they cannot refund our money because we bought a floor model however this was not made known to us from the outstart when the sales person GB told us we can return it no problem. Apparently you have to read the fine print on the receipt which means more than the word of a sales person Who assures you that if you are unhappy with something you may return it but she neglects to mention they will not refund your money so you are forced to buy something from them. Really not a good company...
Read moreBait and Switch... do not get fooled by the nice showroom... they do not stand by their product and the post purchase customer service is non-existent. We purchased a large sectional sofa based on how comfortable it was in the showroom. It was to be delivered in 90 days and was delayed for an additional 60 days so a total of 5 months. Upon arrival, we noticed that the sofa was very different in structure from the one we "sampled" in the showroom. The one in the showroom was soft and comfortable while the one we received was extremely uncomfortable. We immediately reached out to our sales associate Ruth who stated that she would explore options and get back to us. Weeks went by and while we called numerous times, she kept telling us that a manager was going to get back to us. Finally, as we were growing concerned about the lack of attention, we reached out ourselves, leaving numerous messages to the store manager and again no response. We even stopped by the store and were told manager will get back to you. It is now months later, no one is getting back to us and we are stuck with the most uncomfortable $16K sectional which we will have replace at our expense. We of course have shared our experience with everyone we know but also wanted others to be aware so they do not get fooled. Hopefully this post will be helpful so others do not fall into this trap. I recently ran into Ruth, our sales associate, and she stated she was surprised no one got back to us since and she would follow up. Still hoping for a positive resolution but have...
