I have never felt so degraded as the staff and manager made us feel…ever! My son, his girlfriend and I were going for tacos at the main street taco house on Thurs., August 14. They were closed so because we didn’t want to walk or drive anywhere else, we thought we would try The Creek Restaurant since it was just behind the Taco house. We were just in our casual clothes and I even had my service dog, but we went on in. Immediately we were looked at like some type of thugs But we went ahead and let them seat us. They sat us completely away from all the guest that were in another room where there were open tables and where we could have sat. Our waiter was so cold to us. and we immediately felt uncomfortable. We even tried joking around with him and mentioning that we didn’t plan on coming there because we weren’t dressed up or anything like everyone else but he still just acted cold. They gave us each a tiny piece of bread maybe 1 1/2“ x 3“ and one scoop of butter. We were really hungry so we all immediately ate our bread and butter as we looked at the menu. We did not plan on getting drinks because none of us ever order anything but water. Drinks are always so expensive anyhow and we can have those at home if we want. We live in Boerne. When we placed our orders, we found out that there were no sides on any order. My son ordered the one 6 oz type of steak and that was all on the plate (no sides), I ordered a piece of fish with shrimp and there were no sides. We had to pay additionally for sides that were priced around $18 each. We decided against that because the 6 ounce piece of steak was $50 and my piece of fish with two little shrimp was also $50. It’s not that weed paying for something that was good, but these weren’t good. A salad was like 17 or $18 and two of us went ahead and ordered a salad. When the salads came out, they were so small probably a cup total of lettuce and that’s big pieces of lettuce. I couldn’t believe it. I felt like they did that intentionally. Anyhow, when we got our food, my fish and shrimp had no taste at all to it, just a strong fishy taste. I had to ask for salt, which took forever for the waiter to get for me. It still wasn’t good. The waiter made me feel like I shouldn’t have even asked for the salt. My son‘s little piece of steak was good but because nothing else came with it he was still hungry. My son‘s girlfriend ordered some type of fettuccine with scallops and shrimp and I tasted it and it wasn’t good at all. When my son‘s girlfriend had run out of water, which was before the meals came, the waiter had not even come by our table and stopped to ask if she wanted a refill. We had to stop him to ask for a refill. I couldn’t drink my water because it tasted and smelled so fishy. I was really thirsty, so I ended up stopping what looked like the manager who by the way kept walking by our table and looking down at us as he walked by each time. I told him that my water was undrinkable and that it smelled fishy and tasted fishy. He picked my water glass up and smelled it right in front of us and said yes it does and walked away with my glass. A few minutes later, our waiter came and gave me another glass of water and didn’t even give me an apology. We will never go back to this restaurant and will definitely tell people what we experienced. If you are very wealthy and just want to spend/throw away your money, maybe this is the place to go because you’re the type of person they want...
Read moreThis place has been a favorite date night spot for us when we were in the area, but seems to have gone downhill since the last time we were here. Went on a week night when the place was mostly empty except for one large party which was there to celebrate a birthday. Service was friendly initially, but though there were only 2 other parties in her area, our waitress was mostly absent, and had to be asked for every individual piece of bread. I ordered the papardelle bolognese, which I've had and loved before, and the wife ordered the endive salad and balsamic chicken caprese. It took almost half an hour before she got her salad--6 spears of endive with 5 paper thin slices of pear and a few little bits of cheese and candied pecan and some squirts of balsamic dressing for almost 20 bucks. Had to flag down another server for salt as our waitress had disappeared again. After waiting another half hour for our food, we asked her what was taking so long, and she got quite defensive and said there was a large party up front that was keeping the kitchen busy, which we had noted on the way in, but the place was otherwise about a quarter full, if that, which the kitchen ought to be able to handle. When we finally got our food, the wife's chicken, which was supposed to involve "seared tomato and melted burratta, glazed in a balsamic reduction," was rubbery and overdone, sandwiched with a slice of raw tomato and rubbery, non-melted mozzarella and swimming in a pool of balsamic vinegar that tasted like it had been poured straight from the bottle. My pasta was bone-dry and tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp until the sauce had evaporated and the noodles congealed into a solid mass. It seemed like our food probably had been ready for about 40 minutes and then just sat in the oven forgotten until the wife asked about it. We would have sent it all back if we weren't starving at that point. We weren't in the mood for dessert by that point, even if it had been offered for free by way of compensation for neglecting all the other customers. Even without it, dinner came to $170, which included a bottle of the house red. As we were leaving, another diner, who had been seated around the same time as us, finally got his food--he'd ordered fish, and it smelled like when one of your coworkers microwaves fish in the employee break room. That alone was enough to make us beat feet. The Creek used to be a go-to for special occasions, but looking at some of the other reviews, it looks like it's under new management, and looking at some of the photos of the menu from just a year ago, it looks like they've jacked their prices up over 30%. It's a shame to see a former favorite hit the skids, but there are plenty of other restaurants in the San Antonio area, so we won't be returning to this one. Addition: I notice the Creek management doesn't respond to these reviews, and that's probably for potential liability reasons. But it also looks as though it means they don't care, and they should, because if you look at the reviews from the last year, over a quarter of them have been critical, and many if them strongly negative. Not only is there a negative trend, but many of them mention the same things, even the same dishes. If this were my business, I'd be...
Read moreThis Saint Patrick's Day was our one-year wedding anniversary and to be honest, we had nothing planned. That morning we woke up and impulsively decided we were going to take a trip to Bourne because damn it, we needed to acknowledge this amazingly beautiful day. The Creek Restaurant happened to have the highest ratings and a boatload of great reviews so we made a reservation online for two hours from then. When we arrived we didn’t expect that we would have some of the best seating in the house! The whole place has amazing views but I found the sectioned off area with the bay windows to be romantically delightful. We tried the special of the day which was the parmesan-crusted flounder and we also ordered the petite filet mignon and both were to die for. My husband was obsessed with the vegetables and red potatoes that came on the side. All the food simply melted in your mouth in the best of ways, it was quite a heavenly experience. We also ordered a latte and it came with two brown sugar cubes with cinnamon and it was probably the best latte we’ve had in awhile. The waitress recommended the homemade sangria and it came with fresh cubed fruit which was sweet, but not overwhelming in the slightest. The staff was beyond friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, wine lists, etc. and when our waitress found out it was our anniversary they brought Crème Brulee to the table to treat us. The Creek Restaurant and its staff made our anniversary forever memorable and we will be returning for our second wedding anniversary. We can’t thank you...
