Overall, the food was pretty good, however the service was really bad. I don’t want to place any blame on the waitress because she may have been overworked and/or poorly trained.
Like others have mentioned, the servers almost never came to our table (except the 6 times they tried to take my friend’s plate even though they weren’t finished eating). They never refilled our waters, which was just really strange to me since I can’t say I’ve ever been to a restaurant where they didn’t frequently refill your water. Also considering the fact that it’s Mexican food, a lot of the dishes can be very spicy so I feel like it would be standard to refill water cups (my friend had to start rationing her water because they weren’t coming to our table, so we couldn’t even ask for a refill). Towards the end of the meal, a couple different waiters came by multiple times (probably even more than 6 times that I mentioned previously) trying to take my friends plate even though they still had food on their plate. It seems like they are more trained to just clear the table as soon as possible rather than something as simple as refilling waters (they had water pitchers at their stations, but I rarely saw them use them). At the end of the meal, the waitress never asked if we wanted to order more or even check if we wanted to split the bill. She just brought the bill over without a word (another thing I’ve never experienced at any other restaurant). I think overall this is just an issue with the management and how they train their employees since I noticed multiple employees doing the same things I described above.
The food itself was pretty good, but I don’t think it was worth the high price points. For example, the calamari was $16 (it’s an appetizer so it was one of their cheaper options), but the portion was pretty small compared to other places and they mixed in fried lemon slices and jalapeños so there wasn’t even much calamari itself in the dish.
I’ve been to Mexican restaurants that are much cheaper, but the portions were much larger and the service was way better at those places. Here they will only give you one small bowl of chips and salsas to share (there were 3 of us and we finished the chips in less than 5 minutes), but at other places I’ve been to they will refill the chips constantly (* I know I’m being nitpicky with this point, but considering how expensive this place is, I just expected more).
Overall, I would not recommend this place, especially if you plan on dining in the restaurant. I think you would have a far better experience at a mom-and-pop type restaurant. Mago Grill & Cantina was just not worth the price at all given the bad service and the size of...
Read moreGoing to try and keep it short and sweet but it will be hard. This place is modern and welcoming not boushi. My wife and I decided to stop by and try it. For drinks, she got the white sangria and I had the Machu Pichu. Sangria was ok but I recommend the Machu Pichu, it was citrusy and refreshing. They brought us tortilla chips with three different salsas. I loved the orange salsa since it was the hotter one, probably habanero salsa, and my wife the lemony green salsa. For dinner she went with something safe, a steak a la tampiqueña and i went a little more adventurous with mole de cacahuate (peanut) verde con pechuga de pollo ( chicken breast) . We both loved our plates. The mole was delicious as its not easy to make . Its also not spicy but has tons of flavors. Ok so it is hard to try mole for people that havent eaten it before but trying this one , I would not only recommend it, I cant wait to go again and try a different one. So a couple things we didnt agree with were first, the hostess area. Its weird, its right after the entrance and no room if you have to wait. Water was not served and waitress did not ask if we wanted any. Last, if you like tortillas on the side we didnt get any nor were we asked if we wanted any. We also felt a little rushed since the waitress took the menu right after we ordered and brought us a box without asking for one. Maybe cause it was Friday. However on tortillas, the plate was more than enough and you get to enjoy the food more and its flavors but some people like tortillas on the side. Pluses, were their clean spacious bathrooms, the variety of drinks, the food, and the guacamole lady! Anyways, dont take it from me, taste it for...
Read moreI made a reservation for eleven people for my birthday. We were a party of eight adults and three kids. When making the reservation I made sure to state that three kids would be coming and that we would need two high chairs. I received a call from the restaurant about three hours before our reservation and we confirmed that we would be coming in. The person who we to talked on the phone stated the importance of arriving on time to our reservation and that out entire part would need to be present in order to be seated. We all arrived about two minutes before our reservation and they were unprepared to seat us. They asked us several times how big our party was and seemed surprised that we had kids with us. About three people came over to ask us if we needed high chairs and I believe the manager came out to count us and proceed to tell us that our entire party was not present even though we were all there. He said we were only eight and that the reservation was made for eleven. I specifically told them when I made the reservation that we were eight adults and three kids. It was very uncomfortable for him to come out and count us and to imply that we were lying about our entire party being present. We had to wait a few minutes as they scrambled to get out table ready. It was uncomfortable and a bad experience to have to wait by the tiny entrance as they seated other customers even though I made the reservation the day before. The service was okay, the food was bland and too expensive for the bad quality and experience. This restaurant has bad management and I will absolutely never visit again. I feel very disappointed by the way we...
