I wish I could give a zero. This hotel is poorly managed and has done little so far to rectify anything. I'd like to preface this review with the fact that it takes a lot to get me to write a bad review about a place. I work service industry and know that everyone has a bad day sometimes BUT this was a series of events that I think other people need to know about.
We were there as a wedding party, me being the maid of honor and the bride staying with me the night before her wedding. Our entire family and the grooms entire family stayed in the hotel. This is how our stay went -
First, upon arriving late Saturday night, we check in with the hotel desk and leave a deposit for our room. A few hours later, my partner came to pay the rest with his card. Our total stay should have been $325 and some change. When my partner tried to pay it, the front desk tried charging the deposit all over again even though we only owed about half of that. The front desk person was rude when he was told that it wasn't the correct amount. He said to "just sign for it now and we'll fix it later". After refusing and removing our card from the chip reader the person then got even more annoyed and was huffing and puffing saying "why would you do that, just pay it". No, sounds like a good scam to me. So, the person fixes the charge to $140 and said $30 would be credited back to us. Still makes no sense but it's late and we don't have time or energy at this point to argue. All of this ONLY to find that we were actually charged ANOTHER $269 on top of the $209 I already paid. We've now been charged $478.72 when my confirmation for 2 nights is $325.26.
Onto the hotel itself... upon getting to the room we discover that there are ants ALL OVER the desk area. I kill them and begin looking around the room. There was a dirty and half drank coffee cup on the desk and the bar of soap at the sink in the bathroom has clearly been used by someone else already. The cleanliness in the room was extremely subpar. But again, it's late and I don't have or want to complain like the front desk manager suggested I should've done after we called last night to complain. We also had the bride with us in our room with her dress and everything for the wedding. So, that being said, I'm not going to make a big deal of these things because 1) she picked this hotel so I didn't want her to feel bad and 2) I did not need to stress her out over the little things while she was with us.
Next, the fire alarm at 3AM. I know accidents happen but this accident wasn't put to rest in a timely manner nor handled appropriately. Being that we have the bride with us, she was freaking out because everything for her wedding is IN our room in the hotel that's potentially on fire. We get her dress ready to bring downstairs and after about 10 minutes the alarm goes off. We go downstairs anyways to see what's going on and your front desk staff was clueless to the situation. Even when the fire department came and asked where the alarm was to check it she says "oh I have no clue". I would hope the staff would be better trained for an emergency in the future, especially after finding out it was a guest in the lobby/bar area that pulled it on purpose.
Lastly, we were told by the house keeping staff that the ENTIRE hotel ran out of toilet paper. They had to run to a store to get some for the guests. This is absolutely unacceptable. It's not only unsanitary but just extremely poor planning on managements part.
All in all, I will NEVER stay or recommend the Aloft Bolingbrook to anyone. I feel so bad for the bride and groom that they had their entire family in this hotel and every single one of us have had complaints. What a shame. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!! I suggest running as far away from...
Read moreI feel like some of these google reviews are misleading. For as much as the stay was for two nights - roughly $300- I should have gotten a lot more. The front desk staff was super friendly and that was a plus. The rooms are aesthetically pleasing and the beds are comfortable but for the price I expected to be wow’ed. We had an ant infestation in our room and it was honestly frustrating because I needed to simply get away and relax and was not in the mood to deal with possibly having to move rooms, so I didn’t even bother with calling it in. The tv is kind of small especially if you have vision issues. My room could have been much more maintained but I guess folks are okay with paying so much and getting mediocre quality. Breakfast wasn’t even included and was the usual quality of food you get for free at other hotels (with breakfast included) but you have to pay. The pool was way too cold and maybe I’m old but even the kiddos in the pool kept complaining about how cold it was and taking turns sitting under the hot shower that’s in the pool area. There is a small outdoor patio area that has potential but part of it was roped off because it needed visible repairs. I just don’t understand why you are okay with charging such outrageous prices but can’t even repair something that is dangerous enough you have “caution” tape blocking parts of it off. I’m not sure if they don’t have an ice machine but they legit have zip lock bags with ice in a freezer for you to grab and bring back to your room- that does not , in any way, justify the ridiculously high prices for their rooms. The “jukebox” where you usually add money to listen to your chosen music was broken and I really wanted to enjoy my drink with some decent tunes. The pool table was closed and this was around 11pm. It’s Friday, it’s by the bar, and we’re all adults, right? I felt like I had to go to bed bc there was nothing there for us to do and even the tvs in the bar area are too small to enjoy. The water in the shower would not get as hot as I usually prefer but that’s a Minor detail, albeit one I’ve never encountered in a hotel stay before. I’m not sure the location or staff would make it worth my returning. Next time someone wants to surprise me with a hotel stay, I need to vet it first and would not agree to...
Read moreStayed at the hotel for a wedding. The entire experience was a complete disaster. I booked the hotel in 2019 for my wedding and find out 48 hours prior that the extras I had booked to accommodate my wedding party were all wrong and not found in the system. I had a 6 hour panic attack because no one could give me answers and continued to put me on hold or tell me someone else would call me back. Ultimately I ended up with what I wanted, but other brides did not. Because of this, while I was getting ready I had members of other bridal parties harassing myself and my group (not the hotels issue, but was a result of their mistakes). Even after the countless issues, the staff was rude day of and gave all my guests a hard time checking in and couldn’t comprehend how to check in people that had multiple rooms under one persons name. Called me mother to ask what rooms they had already checked her in to rather that having that in the system. I absolutely hated the experience with this hotel. The saving grace was that the hotel is very nice and is one of few I found with a full service bar for after the ceremony. I could go on and on about how upset and displeased I am with this experience. I would rather sleep in my car than book a large event here and would warn any bride that their day may get ruined when booking here. The GM, Janice and VP of ops, Stacie did ultimately fix my issues, but being told we may need to split the conference room I booked 2 years ago and that things would hopefully work themselves out hours before my wedding was terrible. I know it wasn’t their fault specifically but I almost expected them to treat us better and comp at least something for us. I can’t exactly blame one person, but ultimately it is the hotels responsibility to fix issues and this was so sub par. If it were me, I would’ve bent over backwards to make it right. Sent champagne or flowers or have a bar credit or something. Instead my guests were given a hard time. Don’t even know how to end this review as it was the biggest mess of my wedding. Luckily I’m go with the flow and it didn’t ruin my day, but I know other brides were furious and in literal tears as I was as well. Such an absolute joke of a hotel....
