China By the Sea — Restaurant in Boothbay Harbor

Uggggg!!! An $85 waste of money! Zero ambience, silent dining room, host told us to seat ourselves, one other table in the room, 10 minutes went by and I approached the 2 servers/host and asked if anyone was going to come to our table or do we go in the kitchen and serve ourselves? Both servers were on their phone texting and barely looked up and said someone will be with you in a minute. 3 minutes later, one of those two at the host stand came by ( no water, just menus in hand) we ordered 2 beers & 2 waters, that took another 5 minutes. Food came out quick, Asian food is usually on the more salty side but this was barely edible. Server never checked back to see how we were doing, just back to her texting at the front desk. I came to this seemingly peaceful restaurant... with my daughter... to order crab rangoons. We've heard nothing but good things from friends about these delights. HEARD nothing but good things... As our platter was served to us, my daughter could not WAIT to try them! As she takes a bite into it, she pauses. As a parent of twenty-five children, predictably, I go into panic mode. Thoughts rush into my mind, was there too much cream cheese? Was there no cream cheese? Was the cream cheese expired? And, the most outrageous one, is the crab alive? Well, as it turns out, the crab IS alive. Funny enough, ALL of the crabs are ALIVE. HOW???? HOW DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO US??? Went here just expecting a run of the mill Chinese restaurant but after having eaten here I can say for sure this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been too. Portions were nice and large for what you pay for. The wonton soup had a nice variety of pork, cabbage, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms on top of two nice large pork wontons. Lo Mein was full of vegetables and a good helping of chicken. The spare ribs were cooked perfectly with a nice char and sweet sauce that doesn't overpower the pork. Plenty of other options and variety to choose from!

If you are looking to get something other than the same fried fish and lobster after a few days of eating that, or if you just like Chinese American food I can't recommend...
