It was as though I found myself trapped in a pane of glass, between the queue and the croissant. The breathing walls had a calming effect while the windows looking out on the street took in the newborn light, eight minutes and twenty seconds old. The New England soup seemed to wait at the door while the calm faces of morning prepared itself for the hurry of the afternoon. The bear claw, as big as my hand made me smile, it made me feel like a child. It always does. Though I know I will just have the coffee and apple turnover, I still hesitate before moving on. All the delights at the Mirror Cafe are precluded in my mind by a cruel rationale that I no longer exert enough force to justify such indulgence. I order my coffee, I ordered my pastry and just before paying, I embrace the impermanence of it all. âWait!â I exclaim as if the door were closing on an elevator to happiness. âIâll take that bear claw too.â Great place, highly recommend.    Read moreI ordered two fried eggs. The waitress asked 'Over easy or over hard?' I said 'not over at all.' Twice. Then waited for coffee while the waitress was refilling coffee at everyone else's table, didn't get it until after my food arrived (the first time). When my food came they were two over hard fried eggs. When I said I want what I ordered she said I should have ordered sunnyside up. She acknowledged that I said 'not over at all' but still said I should have ordered sunnyside up. They did very grudgingly fix my order - with all three waitresses saying 'you're supposed to say sunnyside up.' How you understand 'not over at all' to be over hard I will never know. The sausage was also not that good diner sausage either. And the coffee was bitter. Full disclosure, I ate everything, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't good either. I...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our meal here! Standard diner fare with a good selection of pastries. We ordered a breakfast combo as well as a bagel with cream cheese plus a side of scrambled eggs. We got a HUGE glass of OJ for only $2! The restaurant was busy but our food came out pretty quickly and everything was tasty. My partner said the pancakes were a little dry but were overall still good. I was impressed by the quality of the bagels (since usually diner bagels are meh). A great inexpensive breakfast stopâI think we will return...
