Secret shopper review, Very real very honest review.Walked in the restaurant, its a cute little restaurant, but not as clean as I hoped, Was greeted by the lady at the teller stand, the grill was not clean and the 1 guy who was working the kitchen section looked like a mess, he's apron was not clean and he keep wiping is hands on his apron, there were 2 girls in the store, so I ask a question to the girl who was storing juice in the fridge, as far as how much were there tacos individually, there is no prices on the menu boards when you walk in, she did not know, so the girl at the teller was asked in spanish and then I got my answer, Its $4.59 a taco, these are over priced tacos, at this point i was expecting some really great tasted not dry tacos, My order came out, before I received my order, I looked at the place were the hot food and cold food was, its open concept so you can see everything from preparation to receiving your order. The food looked like it was sitting in its section for a long time not checked for temperature and not change every 4 hours. Finally my taco were not hot,the soft shells were dry, no flavour in the meat,it was just a dry sad 😢 bunch of tacos, the corn was actually pretty good, I payed $20.80 for 3 different tacos and a corn, I would not recommend it to someone else as you can get way better tacos, that are not over priced.I don't understand why people are raving about this place, just be honest and give...

I have been a customer of Chilacates since they opened, when it was only one spot in JP, I have always been very satisfied of the customer service, food is always great and orders has been on point. In the past I always went to both locations in JP and I have also visited and order from the one in Roslindale. But today I was near enough to the one in Mission Hill and decided to place my order from there, before sharing my experience of today I do want to say that I know we all make mistakes and/or forget things and that I get... I order online to pick it up myself. I went to get my food, it was ready on time, checked the bag and noticed I got what it seem at a quick glance the correct order, when I got home I took everything out and noticed the order was incomplete ( I was not going to drive 20 min back), I called the restaurant and explained and they said Sorry, and said that I can go back to get it, I said that will not be possible, and asked them to reimburse me and the lady said that once they charged they can not reimburse and then I asked for them to please deliver what was missing and she also that was nor doable and that they is nothing could do except to give it to me if I go get it or next time I order. I do find it unacceptable for a business to say that there is nothing they could do, especially when it was...

Great place, they take food very seriously and they won't ever lower their quality. They use not so common ingredients for their food that make the flavor unique and totally worth the prices. Given the fact that they just raised the prices recently after 5 YEARS, because they care more about the experience of having GREAT, HEALTHY AND ALL NATURAL FOOD, than the revenue. Keep in mind, that for you to have the best, they have pay premium too and it gets to a point where you refuse to bring down your quality just to save a few cents.

Also, reading the comments about the menu not being clear or prices not being listed...THEY ARE! They don't like their business to be misunderstood and they explain in all the menus the prices for "upgrade" meats, how much it will be extra for each dish you might get those meats with. There is nothing wrong with asking questions when in doubt, it is way better...

I have ordered from and gone to Chilcates sooo many times. My fiance and I go there nearly weekly. However this evening my fiance picked it up on his way home and in both my quesadilla tray and my side of rice there was hair. Hair that is obviously not mine and not my fiances. I ignored the first hair as it was on top of my sour cream and pico so it was easy to be removed and not cooked into my food. I also didn't eat my sour cream or pico. Then I’m about halfway done with my separately packed side of rice when I see another hair, same color and same length. I immediately stoped eating, and I’m struggling to mentally ignore that there was two and possibly more hairs in my food. Very disappointed. Never had this happen before but my perception is not damaged and I’ll be fearful in the future when getting food from this location.

Great Mexican with a great selection of ingredients and well put together meals. I had a burrito with the verde pork and it was flavorful and delicious. They also have some great chips though I was a bit disappointed in the flavor of the salsa - it didn't have much spice to it. One thing I was extremely happy to see were the tamales on the menu and enjoyed the chicken tamale immensely - that is something that can be hard to find up north. Seating is limited but it is a great location for take out. Well worth your time and money to stop by.

I can't believe I am only now writing a review for this place. I used to come there all the time when I worked in the neighborhood. When you come in, you can see that they cook their meats fresh in a giant drum. I therefore know the principal ingredients are fresh. I do miss the pre-inflation days but I still think it's reasonably priced. One worker used to know my order by heart. I am glad that there has been no drop off in quality since the olden days. Will probably go back if I'm hungry and in the area.
