EDIT: I visited them again recently after the owner responded to my review stating that they had changed their pastry provider. Their chocolate croissant now is really good! I am happy to see that they took the feedback and improved! The time it took to get my order complete was shorter this time also, which is great! The barista was kind and had great customer service skills. Overall 4.7/5, so I'll round it to a 5/5. I left the food 4/5 because the coffee isn't the best one out there, but it's not bad. Good place to get work done. This morning there were quite a few customers there, so I hope business is going well and that this place will be around Mission Hill for many years to come (and as time goes by their coffee also gets better and better, and hopefully they'll introduce signature drinks).
I've been there twice, a few weeks apart from each visit. I love the ambiance/atmosphere, and I understand that they likely hired baristas that are beginners. Nevertheless, the reason why I give it a 3/5 is because neither the coffee nor the pastries are that great. On my first visit I had an almond croissant and a cappuccino. When I ate the cappuccino I immediately thought: "Trader Joe's has a better almond croissant, but the coffee is pretty good." The second time I visited I got a pain au chocolat and a latte. I could not finish the pain au chocolat. It was so dense, thick, and chewy hat I threw about 1/4 away, and I'm not the kind of person who wastes food. And the latte was simply not good. I understand that this is a new establishment, and that they're likely to get their pastries from other places, but I want this review to be a message to them to male their pastries in house or find a new source. I will visit them again in a few weeks or months in the hopes that they have improved their product. Their plants are nice, and the atmosphere is great. But the actual coffee and pastries need some work. I really want this business to succeed and not to go under like Boba Me, the company that had that space...
Read moreWas super excited about this cafe because of its aesthetics and plants. I ordered an iced matcha latte which was great and a bagel egg and cheese. The egg and cheese is supposed to come with no bacon, however my first one was covered with bacon inside. I asked for another one which they graciously provided, however the second one also had bacon on it. I was offered a third egg and cheese and a refund, however even the last bagel egg and cheese had bacon on the edge of the plate.
I understand it’s difficult to start up a new cafe, but the cross contamination of having bacon in my sandwich three times is too much. The staff is very friendly but allergen training or more active measures to prevent cross contamination are definitely needed. Why are all the eggs being made with bacon? I do not eat pork for religious reasons and it’s frustrating to have it on my breakfast three times in a row when the bagel explicitly is just an egg and cheese. Stars for the aesthetics and the staff’s attempts to try to...
Read moreOnly good thing about this place was the coffee. It was actually well made. The cons: food, service and atmosphere. Cinnamon bun was stale. I ordered the "Lil Chic" sandwich which is literally something a college student would make after coming home drunk from the bar. Frozen hash brown with frozen chicken tenders with American cheese. Really disappointing. The place itself was dirty. There was food and trash on the floor and after finally getting a table, we had to clean up spilt milk/liquids ourselves since no one came to wipe it down. It's very much a college student hangout, which I was not aware of going in. My partner and I were easily double the age of the rest of the patrons. We went on a busy Sunday afternoon. I understand there's lots of chatter in a coffee shop but it was really loud/ chaotic. Not a place to have a chill cup of coffee and relax. I honestly wanted to leave as soon as we walked in. Chairs were also quite uncomfortable. Will not...
