I recently attended an MTG prerelease at Tavern of Tales. It was my first time at the store and the event was advertised to cost $35, as shown in the screenshot below taken July 10. I entered my credit card details in the reservation, as I expected to be charged once I completed the online reservation. But, when I went to the event, finished the event, and went to close the bill, I was charged $45. I was told the price was always $45, despite another customer echoing they thought it was $35. Nowhere on the website is the price shown for the event (see second screenshot). Additionally, I was told that the real price was on their Discord, which I am not a member of, nor should there be any expectation for customers to be a member of.
As per the Massachusetts Item Pricing Law, "If the item costs more than $10 and rings up higher than the advertised price, $10 must be deducted from the price." There was no reasonable attempt made to notify consumers of this price discrepancy, which could have been easily made through an email to notify everyone who preregistered. When I called, the manager stated that the price has always been $45 (which is not true, see screenshot) and they would not honor the $35, despite that price being advertised to many consumers. Had I known the event would be $45, I would have not done business here and would have gone elsewhere.
It is unfortunate this has to be my first experience with this store. It is unfortunate that many customers fell for this pricing discrepancy and the store made no effort to make good on their pricing error. Rather, customers were made to bear the result of the store's pricing error. This is not how business should be conducted and I am saddened by...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE PLAY MTG EVENTS, OVER PRICED, CHEAP REWARS, NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!! I joined a draft here, that was my first (and definitely last) time attending a draft at this store. Nowhere on their website or in-store did they clearly state the pack prices. And they collect my credit card the time I went in the store just made me uncomfortable. The table is sticky, because they also serve food on those table, and I do not even want to put my playmat on. For the draft, all they mentioned on the website about fees was “3 packs + entry fee (normaly over $10).” When I got there, I found out the packs were grossly overpriced — way above market value, which I can not find the price on the website before I go.
And the prizing? Ridiculously stingy. Instead of the usual “1 win = 1 pack” structure you see at most stores, here you get a measly $4 store credit per win — which, thanks to their inflated prices, isn’t even enough to buy half a pack. And this did not even montioned on the anouncement of the event. It’s an absolute joke.
If you value your money, and just want to play magic, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Pandemonium in Cambridge offers better staff, a more welcoming play environment, lower draft entry fees (over 15% cheaper), and actually fair prizing — one pack per win, plus extra credit for top finishers.
Never coming back here again. This place...
Read moreI visited this magical Tavern that is only a 5min walk from the Roxberry crossing T stop on the orange line. I went with some friends and had the best time here, the food was amazing! We ordered the pile of bullets (bacon wrapped tator tots), loaded nachos the pork sliders and the Angus cheeseburger sliders. Everything was very flavorful the nachos were wonderfully seasoned the bacon on the tots was nice and crispy , the beef sliders were very juicy and the pork sliders were my favorite. They had perfect texture and consistency I think it was the pickled onions and patriot pickles that made this slider one of the best pork sliders I've ever had. Also just wantd to add the food came out fast. If you're into alcoholic beverages I would highly recommend the arboretum cocktail, it has a flavor that I can only describe as s*xy. I'll let you find out for yourself. They also have games/board games for you and your friends to play at your table while you wait for your food or while you eat. If you and your friends don't want to be in the main seating area and want to have some privacy they also have small rooms/ office area you can rent out by the hour the the small fee of $35 per hour(for upto 6 people). I hope you all enjoy the Tavern of Tales as much as I did I'll definitely be...
