Don't get it twisted: Fuel is a library pretending to be a coffee shop. On any given weekend day, you will find this place barely noisy filled with Macbook carrying BC students camped out to finish their latest and greatest assignment. The service is decent and the atmosphere, if there was ever a turn over in available seating, would be astounding... but that's just it, it never changes over ever.
People spend entire days on one measly $1.69 coffee absorbing the free wi-fi camped at tables. They give you dirty looks when you, the actual coffee shop goer who intended to break out of your apartment for the morning and leisurely enjoy a hot brewed cup of joy, begin to hold a conversation. Listen buddy, I don't go to your library to drink coffee. So don't go to my coffee shop to study.
Fuel could be the greatest coffee shop in all of Boston if it weren't for the obnoxious adherence to "fueling" the ongoing study session. Last I checked, these kids are living off of student loans... I'm living off the salary I make from going to my job Monday-Friday. How about you appeal to the consumer base that will actually sustain you?
Sorry Fuel, your fresh brewed goodness isn't worth those obnoxious laptop cords that treacherously line your floors. Do us all a favor and cut the wi-fi every now and then and allow...
Read moreI am an avid coffee shop taster. I saw this shop on DoorDash and went out of my way to stop in. Good food but took me about 45 minutes to get a coffee! I got 2 cookies and a large coffee with flavor/ cold foam - somehow came to almost 18$ total- which was a surprise. I paid hoping the 8$ coffee would be worth it. I was handed my cookies then waited for my coffee for about 20 mins, then informed the barista I hadn’t got my coffee. She asked me my order again 2x and filled up a cup of coffee with ice, put it on the back counter, and it sat for another 10 mins watering down. Finally it was getting made by another barista, but when she was done, she announced it completely wrong. I informed her my order was different and she says “can you write down your order? Also, it’s going to take a while, we are backed up on orders.” I then end up waiting another 15 minutes until I’m the last person waiting in the lobby line area. They apologized at last but I felt like an inconvenience since I was ignored the whole time. What should’ve been 5 minutes nearly took an hour - will unfortunately not...

Come for the atmosphere and coffee. Eat elsewhere.
Fuel is a laid-back study spot, great for paper-writing, meeting up with friends, or just to get out of the house for a bit. Their coffee used to be superb; now whether it ends up burnt depends on who the barista is. Even slightly burnt, it's still pretty great. The food is pastries and slapped-together sandwiches, standard overpriced coffee shop fare. ($7 grilled cheese and $4 PB toast is high even for Brighton.) But pastries are $0.99 after 4 pm!
They have a small parking lot and street parking. They also have gluten-free bread, but shared preparation spaces. No GF pastries, sadly.
This is a great place to get work done, but I usually try to eat before I come. The atmosphere is one of the best in the area, and the $0.99 pastries thing is pretty great, but the coffee could be more consistent and the food could be...
