I usually love Pavement, but I do not recommend this location. The service here was appalling, and I’m still thinking about it days later. I want to warn other Pavement fans about my experience. I placed a mobile order and arrived to find the café packed. No problem—I waited patiently. After 20 minutes, I noticed walk-ins ordering and quickly receiving their food and drinks, and even DoorDash drivers were being told their orders would be ready in “5 minutes.” Meanwhile, I continued waiting. Eventually, I went to the counter and explained I had been waiting over 20 minutes. The barista—dark hair, blue eyes, wearing a black mask—looked me up and down and said, “Ma’am, unless you got a text that your order was ready, it’s not ready.” I asked politely if he could just check on my order, and he cut me off, repeating, “Ma’am, did you receive a text or no?” When I said no, his only response was, “Then please wait in the back for a text when your order is ready.” What shocked me most was the difference in how he treated me compared to others around me—everyone else received kind, attentive service, but he refused to help me. In the end, I never got my order and walked out. I was stunned by this treatment. If you love Pavement, I recommend choosing a...
Read moreBack in the day there used to be the go-to place called Bagel Rising that provided Allston/Brighton residents with a good cup of coffee and a delicious bagel sandwich to cure whatever debauchery happened the night before. They had lines out the door on most days, crazy waits on Sat and Sun. Pavement decided this was a horrible business model, so they took over and upped the prices on everything, took away some of the best sandwiches, and added a hipster attitude to match the prices.
As you can see, I am bitter. I hate to see wanna-be Starbucks chains take over local businesses and ruin everything that was great about the place. The only reason I gave it two stars is the food and coffee are decent, but way overpriced for what you get in return - especially when you have to deal with the hipster attitudes. I'll take the stoners from Bagel...
Read moreReally disappointed in the quality of service lately. This Pavement location has been my go-to for the past year or so after moving neighborhoods and I've never had an issue. They messed up my last two mobile orders within the past two weeks. Both times I asked for No Cheese for my bagel sandwich but they included anyways. Not a big deal the first time and they remade it right away, but the most recent time I asked for them to remake it, there was some sort of miscommunication. I waited about five minutes while watching the workers in the back through the window chatting it up and laughing. I checked in with the employee at the counter again and they were able to produce the sandwich a minute later while the chatter...
