UPDATE October 2023: My roots grew out terribly so I came back to dye my hair brown. I booked online with Ivan, because I saw some reviews recommending him. There was a little bit of a hiccup, as he needed another stylist to help translate, so I'm not sure that they fully understood what I was looking for, so I ended up with hair that is way redder than I wanted.

I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're set on a very specific look, as you might leave with something entirely different. Additionally, the service they provide seems to be dependent on if you can speak Mandarin. The employee who put on my towel and cape before Ivan started was unnecessarily rough. He poked me hard in my shoulder and would grunt instead of trying to use words to direct me. I have a basic understanding of Chinese but he didn't even bother trying to communicate in a respectful manner.

This was my second try here and I am definitely not returning.

Review July 2023: I wanted to give it some time and thought since my visit last month to write this review, but my hair cut and coloring experience ultimately wasn't up to par with my expectations.

Pros: Easy to schedule my appointment over the phone There was already a stylist assigned to me, so even though I showed up a bit early, they were ready for me My stylist was friendly and asked if I was okay throughout my appointment They have three different tiers of protection for hair coloring, and I picked the middle tier so my hair turned out healthier than previous experiences where no protection was used. Upfront about pricing, the receptionist went through the costs with me before my appointment started

Cons: The way they bleached and colored my hair was different than what I've experienced in the past. Instead of doing two separate bleaching processes, I only sat through one bleaching session where he piled on the bleach. The coloring process happened while I was laying with my hair in the sink (instead of the usual brushing-on at the chair), so I'm not 100% sure what products or method they used. I asked for an ashy gray color that I previously got done at a different salon in Allston (I didn't return because they seriously damaged my hair) but the color turned out more blonde with patches of gray and light blue. The hair by my ears was also yellower than the rest of my hair. The stylist didn't completely bleach or dye my roots, so I walked out of the salon with my black roots already evident. I asked for a bob cut, and upon further inspection when I got home, the back is super uneven There was another stylist who kept coming over during the appointment and talking about my hair in Mandarin (I'm assuming they didn't know I understood, since I only spoke English). He would also come over while my stylist was away, and touch my hair. It made me super uncomfortable.

For the price that was paid, I'm disappointed that my hair didn't turn out the way I wanted. The gray coloring in my hair had pretty much faded within a week, which wasn't an issue with my last coloring at the other salon. I wouldn't recommend coming here for short haircuts, or if you have Asian hair and are looking to bleach it. I would consider potentially coming back for a single-process color or just a simple trim, but I'd rather consider other...

Had a great experience cutting my hair with Wesley. I have came here about 3 times now trying different stylist each time and have left the salon each time satisfied with my cut. As someone who is not very fluent in Chinese and is more comfortable speaking English do note that some of their stylists do need the hostess to help translate if you do not speak Chinese (which is totally fine) but there are a couple who do speak English if not at least some English – Wesley being one of them. He was friendly and made me feel comfortable and had no problem communicating with him. The day I came in was a very busy day I could tell but Wesley didn’t make me feel like he was trying to rush me out the door. I came in with a general idea of what I wanted and trusted him to make his best judgment on what would suit me and he did just that! I’ve been looking for a long time for a place that knew how to handle Asian hair. For a wash, cut, and styling all in one package it’s hard to beat their prices from all the different salons I have tried thus far! Definitely Think I’ve found my new go to stylist for my Asian hair. I had a balayage done at this salon recently and they completely damaged my hair. It was my first time having my hair colored at this establishment and needless to say, I have many regrets. They bleached my hair longer than needed for the color I was going for, which was a light brown (about a level 7), which left it in a state that would rival “bleach gone wrong” videos . Due to this, my hair literally was melted and stringy when the stylist was roughly brushing through my strands. I have received a balayage twice a year for the past 9 years and have never seen my hair damaged to this extent when bleaching and I have been blonder before. I voiced concerns throughout the process and while my hair was coming out in clumps, the stylist would say, “this is normal.” I attached an image of how much my hair was bleached and how it looked after toning.
