My friend and I came here looking for some Korean style sushi. While their menu was limited than I initially expected, we were able to find the spicy fish bowl soup which is a popular dish in Korea during the summer. The bowl came with an icy cold broth and vegetables that enhanced the refreshing aftertaste. The classic combination of thinly sliced squid and the sweet and spicy broth was nice, but the broth was too sweet for my taste. We also had the regular sushi and the scallop yaki, but both were unfortunately mediocre at best.
Without AC, the restaurant was extremely hot and humid. The servers tried their best to provide us with a table closest to a fan, but it was pointless. Humidity and temperature are also critical factors in maintaining the quality of the sushi, so it was a bit concerning. We were also hugely disappointed when we found out that some items on the menu were more expensive than what was indicated. The fish bowl soup ended up being $10 more expensive, and we didn’t realize this until we got out. Although I would love to give a higher rating for their superb service, the overall experience wasn’t worth...
Read moreI've been running around the city looking for good sushi, and Oppa has some of the best I've tried in the area. Their sushi is light and fresh—nothing weighed down, and you can really taste the fish.
Everything they do here is perfect. The fish is prepared just right, and you won’t find better quality anywhere in Boston. This isn’t just an opinion; with over 600 sushi restaurants across the globe, it's a fact.
So how do they do it? They actually work and massage the fish, a level of care most restaurants don't have the time or budget for. The way they marry the flavors is spot-on—honestly, better than anything I’ve ever tasted.
The staff is incredibly friendly and laid-back. They come to work to serve great food, and you can feel it in every dish. They don’t need to look flashy because they know what really matters: the food. And they keep that focus front and center.
Don't miss their hot sake—pair it with any of their dishes and you’re in for a treat.
Edit: I’ve been back two or three times a week since my initial review, and the sashimi is...
Read moreOppa gets 1 star above the minimum because my partner and I didn't get sick. I read the various positive reviews before going and I was pretty excited to check this out. I didn't mind the dingy look of the restaurant. I am a lover of hole-in-the-wall places that subvert expectations and deliver on great food. Oppa sushi is far from that. Here are some specifics:
Miso soup: I have had better Miso made from a store-bought mix Salmon avocado maki: that fish did not look fresh...but tried it anyways just to see Shrimp tempura maki: very heavy-handed spicy mayo topping. All I could taste when eating this was mayo. Takoyaki: very soggy which points to this clearly been sitting around for a while
The food was too bad to finish our meal. We ended up going to another place in the neighborhood to eat some proper food. The only way I can explain the positive reviews for this place is that college kids just want a place for cheap food or perhaps it is the korean cuisine dishes that are exceptional.
In any case, I don't plan on...
