I went to Playwright this past weekend to check out the night life and boozy brunch . First off a friend and I went to the bar on a Friday night … it was packed for such a tiny place !!! It was loud but not in a good way , the crowd was louder than the music so it sounded like constant yelling . Our bartender was lovely and the service was awesome …. Sunday afternoon some friends and I went out for a boozy brunch . We ordered one of their drink towers HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! I had the croque madam and breakfast poutine . I must say what ruined it for me me was the eggs , I don’t think you have an option for how you want your eggs on top . I’m all for over easy but it was not cooked so that was a disappointment. Would definitely try with an over medium eggs if I have that option . My friends ordered the chicken and waffles and said the chicken was phenomenal we also ordered some nachos but the steak was undercooked . All in all 4/5 drinks were on point will be returning for those , staff is amazing and the service was fast . Trying the dinner menu next time ‼️

Amazing service, but the food is really not that great. I had the spicy burger and thought the patty was noticeably underseasoned, the bun over-sweet. For a drink I had the espresso martini, and while it was fine, it wasn’t to the caliber I would expect from a restaurant. I’m sure the regular draft beers and ciders are perfectly serviceable though. The vibe is interesting — it seems like it was once a spirited writer and music themed place that’s now selling its soul to turn itself into a regular boring old sports bar. Would love to return if it went in a more “Lolitas Cocina” direction than a “Ned Devines” but hey, I’m just one guy.

When you’re in a corner booth & management canNOT give you an extra chair because “they are expecting to get slammed” and you and you’re 8 friends sitting & 1 standing order many drinks and apps and food , but no one ever comes for the other tables by the time you leave, I would say that’s piss poor customer service. Food was great and wait staff so friendly. One star for awful management.

Brunch is supposed to be a fun experience in a nice atmosphere - not here. Our waitress was not professional at al or even friendly. When we finished putting our food and drinks order in, she didn't even acknowledge us, she just walked away, leaving my friends and I confused. We all asked for waters, which we didn't get until AFTER we finished eating. The excuse? all the cups were in the dishwasher, allegedly - the table next to us got waters right after our waitress said this, and it took us another 20 mins to get our waters. They were apparently all out of cutlery, but only for our table; while tables near us got napkins and cutlery, we were brought plastic cutlery that couldn't even hold a pancake. The food was fine, but honestly the terrible service and the lack of water made it a miserable experience. Two of my friends got the nachos, which were fine but mostly just chips and definitely lacking on toppings. My other friends shared the breakfast burrito. The presentation was horrible; it didnt even come cut in half and they just threw it on a plate with no sides. They also said that even though it was grilled, the burrito was cold, and instead of sour cream, they got greek yoghurt. My boyfriend and I shared the pancakes and chicken and waffles. Both were fine, but we had to ask for syrup for the pancakes, even though the menu clearly described syrup came with it. We asked for an additional plate for sharing from the beginning, which we had to keep asking for, and got when the food was already cold. If that wasn't enough, my friend asked for a coke, which, btw, is free refills. It came in the smallest glass possible, she never got a refill when she asked for one, and then got charged for 2 cokes! Just incredibly an incredibly messy, unpleasant and all around dissatisfying experience. There are MANY other good brunch places in the area to try instead of wasting your time...

This place had a lot more personality before it was redone. While the inside looks contemporary, it has lost all its Boston allure that made it famous in the days of yonder.

Service is fantastic which is redeeming, and it is clean. However, the menu is wildly unoriginal and the meatball came out burnt to a crisp. Additionally, it is Game 2 of Celtics round 1 and Game 3 of Bruins round 1, and they are playing Tik Tok songs over their sound system, in between a rookie live performer whose style is polar opposite of what a Boston playoff sports bar and grill should have. In fact the singer is ridiculing the games while the only response they get is whenever the Celtics hit a 3 or the bruins lay out a hit.

Feels like the remodel’s goal was to attract tik tok influencer personalities rather than current residents or anyone over the age of 24 (coming from a 26 year old).

-update, I think they cut her microphone level to much lower and I can at least focus on the two games now. So kudos to them if they saw this and made a change, or even just based on the vibes in here they knew they had...
